is that what you can get them fro 2nd hand?

Yep, just a shame I need more than 10MPG and must have 4 doors!

Remember the Monaro is a Vauxhall..... fastest depreciating brand out there at the moment.

Just been looking at details on the new cupra R, this is the final paragraph from Channel 4s Car Site:

The Leon Cupra costs just £19,595 - and that's with a standard specification that includes six airbags, dual-zone climate control, CD player (complete with 3.5mm socket for an MP3 player), and a smattering of leather on the important bits of the interior. It's also reasonably frugal, with an official combined figure of 34mpg, although you'll get nowhere near that if you drive with a heavy right foot.

How does it compare to the fantastic Ford Focus ST? It's a real contender, especially if you're someone who doesn't like to make too much of a fuss. It's the sensible hooligan's choice. Not too sensible, mind; we're not talking cocoa and slippers - leave that to the Octavia vRS drivers...

A bit harsh I thought...

Have you ruled out a used bargain ?

You could get a tidy M3 for £20k.

I wouldn't waste £20k on a new Ford,Skoda,Seat ,VW,Vauxhall or Mazda.

So much nicer/better/faster/less depreciating stuff out there with a few miles on the clock if you are spending that sort of money

I'm really not an fan of second hand, I f I can buy new, I'd like to buy new but an M3 is tempting lol

Although not an Focus ST I was interested in a Ford S-Max ST...same engine...liked everything about it.

However I heard such bad reports about the local Ford dealer that this put me off. I'm not going to spend circa

Its 3.5 grand on an ST or a VRs for me but I have a way out of it, as I am a student, my home address is still in France so I can get the english reg car insured in France for just under a grand.

must be a close run thing with alfa

dont think i could afford the fuel bill :( S3 need to be:D

*puts sensible hat on*

You could always invest the money propperly so that when you graduate you'll be able to afford a house.

EDIT: Obviously wont work if you're using a student loan to buy the car as opposed to having £20k cash to spend/invest:rofl:

Don't buy brand new buy ex-dem.

got my Octy II Vrs, with Jumbo, zenon, maxidot, 18's, in black, 3 months old, 3k miles -

I have 5k left from selling my previous car, going to talk the rest as a loan, pay back 10k next summer and whats left will be a small monthly payment over 5 years. Buying a house is so far away that I don't even want to think about it.

I now need a car and I've decided to buy something I actually want because it's got to last me for 5 years. Was going to buy another fiesta but a bit small and I've done the fiesta scene allready.

I got offered a 06 black vrs with 5 miles and 18" for 15750 but a 07 model is 15999 on broadspeed. Also I want more options than that.

Does anyone have a pic of a vrs on 17s, can't find one anywhere ?

I had a ride in the Mazda at the Renesis driving event. Its a bit sensible looking for someone under 25, I think. The interior was a little awrkward looking too.

Cant comment on how it drove though because it was being used as a J-Turn demo car.

Have a look on the Skoda UK website for other ex demo cars - there may be one that meets your requirements.

Don't forget there is probably some negotiation in the sticker price on used cars (

Focus ST is very nice, especially in ST-3 trim. I very nearly bought an ST-2 but the fuel economy and (at the time back in August) 8 month waiting list put me off.

re performance - Autocar tested vRS vs Golf vs Focus and for them, slowest car to 60 was the Focus.

Just if you're into that sort of thing.

If I were a nipper again, I'd go for something small - smaller than a Focus - you can't beat an ickle car for chuckability (I loved my R5 Turbo).

For now, with a wife, 2 kids and a dog (amongst other things) I'll have my cocoa, slippers and a quick yet comfy car that can carry everything I need :)

Don't go for the 17's unless you really have to. 18's don't look big enough and 17's are just way too small.

Yeah that says a lot, according to that the MPS is quicker than a Vanquish, Ferrari 575 and a Noble!!! :rubchin:

Does'nt tell you which cars have been done in the wet or damp conditions so a little misleading to say the least.

Yeah I was surprised how small the 18s looked in the showroom.

why not try the car i was looking at recently , Renaultsport Megane 225 Cup , you can get these off a broker for £14k or the recently released 230 F1 R26 , LSD and Recaros as standard , £15k off a broker , 6.5 0-60 , 146 mph , remap to 260 bhp

i know its a Renault and French but as has been said to me they are not all bad

i would love an Octy VRS 170 , but there is no way i could afford one without a big discount ,which i wont get anywhere ,unless its a demo

I've looked at them and you can get them cheap but I imagine they'll get a resale price to match.
