Thank You and Good-Bye

Featured Replies

Well after long pondering on my financial situation I have finally come to the painfull decision to sell the Octavia :(

I just could not justify the cost's - 99.9% of the time it's me only in the car and 99.9% of the time I'm stuck in commuter traffic either to or from Chester - so the 236BHP is put to waste - don't get me wrong I love this car - but sometimes the real world has a nasty way of catching up!

So what beast will replace the Octy........ a bright red Toyota Yaris 1.0vvti !!! which has less than a 3rd of the power or torque of the Octy but quite a bit better MPG along with MUCH lower insurance and other costs - got quite a good deal from the local Toyota dealer - against new car he had in stock.

All that is left is for me to say Thanks very much for all the info and banter along the way... plus a big thumbs up to Colin and all the others for the work they put in for the site - love the new look by the way!

I will still pop in from time to time to see how everyone is doing.

See ya around Guys

sorry to hear that. all the best with your new car

Keep your membership current, Dave, and let's hope we will see you back soon - maybe even in the new Octavia! Meanwhile all the best with the new beast. :)

Well it nearly happened before didn't it? Putting off the inevitable I suppose :( Someone will certainly be getting a very nice motor. I've drooled over it before and I've only seen the gallery pics.

As Denis said, keep active. It's a shame when someone sells the car and leaves the site so don't be a stranger.

Duncan (dmac1969) this means you!

all the best dave! :D

All the best Dave!

Yaris not so bad a car...SWMBO has one.....nippy in town, economical and can cruise at 80mph (on private road of course ;)).

You still got your Kahns....wanna swap for some standard 17'' (with a cash suppliment ;))?

Cheers.

Adrian

Thank's Guys - I will keep popping in from time to time - and if I can help anyone on a technical issue - please don't hesitate to ask.

Quite interesting trying to get rid off the Octy -- my local dealer is now an MG Rover dealer !! -- I was amazed at the way they treated me - I know them both as customer and within the Trade - they were not even remotely interested in doing a deal - either straight purchase of my car(fair enough) or as part of me buying another one unless it was a much more expensive model - "Hi I need to cut my costs - any suggestions ?" - "Yes Sir - try this 75 for size" - with it's nice gas guzzling V6 - an MGZT190 for god sake!!!

Toyota dealer - absolute opposite - was dead upfront and told they would not sell a car like mine(modified etc) but would get some under rights(bids of other traders) showed me what my car books at(which I knew anyway) then told me the prices they had been given - lowest

Sorry you've got to sell the Octavia. :( . Looks like a damn fine car.

As a matter of interest, where'd you get the "Oh no ...." sticker from?

The sticker came with the car - funny I have not seen another one with it!

Talking of stickers - I've still got my Briskoda sticker - never got round to putting it in the Octavia - so will have a little reminder

As a total coincidence my mum has just ordered the exact same car last week. She picked it up yesterday after waiting a week, which is pretty remarkable really. I haven't seen it yet but she is pretty pleased with it from what she has said.

I am gutted for you about the news on the sale of your pride and joy, but can fully understand why you are selling up. I spend 90% of my car time on the commute, of which 70% is going slow. I did comment in the review section about the running costs of my car, as of late I have seen MPG in the late twenties. The real cost saver for me though is we only run one car now, and it does everything from commutes to prams, babies and dogs, and of course whopping the odd 318.

The only thing I can really look at at the moment is the cost savings - I've just today topped the 14K mark at an average of around 27MPG - all on nice and expensive SUL or OPTIMAX -- now the Toyota should do at least 40 - and hopefully a bit more once I relearn how to drive a slow car! - anyway at least the new one can run boggo UL  so over 14K thats just over

Yep, the cost saving will be very noticeable. When I fill up every week after doing 270-280 miles it's quite depressing paying

Dave,

Sorry to hear that you are selling the Octy but glad that you will be popping in from time to time. Sounds like your situation was a bit of a no-brainer for you in the end, and you've bought what is (by all accounts) a pretty good car in its segment.

Keep in touch - not having a Skoda doesn't mean you can't be a Briskodian!

As they say hindsight is a wonderfull thing -- suitably equipped I would not have done the mods that I did -although that also means I may not have bought the car in the first place -- and that would have been a shame - because then I wouldnt of found Briskoda...and ergo I wouldnt have had such a great time with all you guys - including our little post count battle :rofl:

I carried on the tradition with MonkeyHanger, but my chimp-choking friend has romped off into the distance....

I still remember the night with Q and the pressure washer and smile... :D

Take care.

Sorry to hear that you are selling the Octy, but you haven't made a bad choice for a runaround. I work for Toyota and the Yaris is a great little car with only a few minor problems that happen very rarely. I'm sure you will have lots of happy miles ahead of you. :D

This is a Yaris that a mate of mine owns. He too works for Toyota and has done just about everything possible to the car apart from turbo/supercharger. Which, btw, is in the pipeline.

Dave,

Sorry to hear the RS finally has to go, but as Blackadder once said, "Needs must when the devil vomits in yer kettle"...

Don't think there's any need to leave the site as such though, you still have plenty of experience with the car to pass on to new owners ;)

Sorry to hear this Dave, but I hope you made the right decision. Don't be a stranger though, members do seem to have a habit of returning to the club after a while... :)
