Valeters have damaged my car!

Featured Replies

Over the past 2 months in Manchester, it has constantly rained and have been unable to wash my car. On friday finally got a bit of sun, washed the car but there was still loads of spots that were hard to move, so i decided to take it for a wash and valet.

So i was driving down the road and noticed a big scratch across the perspex that covers the clocks. How much will it cost to get fixed? Im really p155ed off. They also missed loads of bits, the first and the last time i take my car to a valeters.

Yes, never go near valeters, the sovereign rings tend to scratch paint...

No idea on the perspex... :(

Rob.

Someone once told me that metal polish would bring up scratched perspex, but I've never tried it myself and it's at your own risk if you try it. ;)

I wouldnt advise any attempt to "polish out" a perspex scratch. You can guarantee any abrasive will cause swirl marks.

Youre not kidding about the sovereign rings either!

While im at it, what products are good for cleaning embedded brake dust from the alloys?

Also what cleaning products will help to clean hardened dirt on the bodywork?

Ps vanish stain remover-will it remove coffee stains?

How much will it cost for a skoda dealer to replace the part?

Wheels.. Wax Wizard's MC2 multiclean (though i haven't had a chance to try it yet). Failing that, WOnderWheels.

Hardened dirt?...Chuck a few buckets of hot water (with car wash in) over it, then power wash it off.

Vanish?..no idea :D

Yes coffee stains are in my car. Drinking isnt allowed but one day on my lunch break i took a small cup of coffee and placed it in the cup holder. Forgot about it, drove off and it went all over the rear carpets!

Wheels - Multiclean every time, I used it on a Peugeot 306 that hadnt been cleaned probably for 12 months & it worked brilliantly. Be careful of some of the commercially available wheel cleaners as they are fairly agressive & will if used a lot attack the laquer on your wheels. Note Mark sells it in 5 litre containers but this can be diluted so is excellent value for money, it also degreases engines & can be heavily diluted for a household cleaner so is stunning value for money.

Re Coffee stains or any other stains, scratches marks etc Mark Underwood (The Wax Wizzard) is always more than happy to give free advice, you could always order some multiclean whilst you are talking to him & maybe some polish etc

Marks mobile No is 07966 713177. He tends to work 7 days a week so dont worry about calling, If hes not available the phone will be on answerphone

Mark also offers a full "at your home valet service" & he takes care of your car unlike others as you have discovered. The price may sound high but when you consider he spends a day on your car alone & actually cleans it properly, cleanses all the paint to remove any waxes & grained in grime, fully waxes the car with quality wax, fully cleans the engine bay, cleans the cabin complete & Scotchguards everything (uses leather cleaner on leather) its excellent value

Also he uses proper waxes & treatments on the car unlike a lot of valet companies who just spray silicone on everything to make it shine

For the coffee stains try the armour all wipes they are class used them on my carpets and was really impressed you can get them form halfords or bigger asdas for less than a fiver

Forgot about it, drove off and it went all over the rear carpets!

Carpet's carpet...if you've got any shoe cleaner for suede shoes, it should shift it without being too abrasive...

Any ideas what will remove black biro ink from passenger side seat? 1001 has removed most of it well but stubbon stuff.....

I disagree - this shouldn't happen if you do it properly.

Remove the part from the car and use a very fine grade wet and dry (1200 or 1500) to start with and rub the scratch out.

The clear perspex may look a bit cloudy after the wet + dry so then you polish it up using a good cutting compound - or the metal polish may work.

(obvioulsy only go down this route if the cost of a new part is too dear - which I doubt it will be)

For the perspex you could try a plastic polish... you can get the stuff from caravan parts places and it's specifically designed to polish out scratches on plastic windows so should be OK and shouldn't leave swirl marks. I use it for the plastic rear window on the MX5 and it's fine... comes up like new with a bit of perseverance and some of those scratches are bad from where grit gets between the window and the hood material!

Wheels - MC2

Bodywork, well wash it properly using a detergent free shampoo, then use a clay bar. This will shift any items that are stuck to the paintwork after you have washed it properly, leaving a silky smooth surface afterwards. Then wax it!

Coffee stains on the seat - diluted MC2!

This mc2 stuff, how much is it and where can i get it ?

What is a clay bar?

What is a clay bar?

It's a place where men with handlebar moustaches hang about wearing leather shorts..

Oh, *clay* bar... :o

Rob.

A clay bar is something that looks like a large piece of plasticine (brings back memories of childhood). When used in conjunction with water/detergent on the car body, it removes any surface dust etc. to give a nice smooth finish before waxing. Although the surface of the paint often looks smooth, more often than not theres stuff 'attached' to it that you can't see. Next time you wash your car, run the back of your hand across the wet paint work and you'll probably feel what I mean. (Oooer).

Available from all good Swissol stockists!
