clear plastic strip under front grille?

Featured Replies

My fabia vRS has what appears to be a long clear plastic sticky-tape type strip just under the grille, stuck on the bumper. It's starting to accumulate dirt and shows up.

Wasn't this supposed to be removed by the dealer? After 10 months on espscially in the hot summer weather, I'm thinking that it will need a hot air gun to shift it.......

mmmmmmmmmm...............I've got one aswell....Is it a protective strip??

There's a fairly big gap between the grille edge and the bumper, don't think so.

Problem is that lots of dirt is acumulating there, even just after a wash looks grungy!!!

Anyone?

I'm in the same boat chaps, I think it's meant to be there although I don't ever recall seeing the part number on ETKA when I have been looking at front bumpers for the Fabia.

well I've had enough of it - as soon as I get a moment, out with the heatgun and the WD-40 and off with it!

It's a protective strip...........some come off by themselves, mine did when i had the Fabia. I contacted the dealer and no joy for a replacement strip as they have to buy this stuff in 25m rolls. Some Fabia's come with it some don't.....I would say it's up to you if you take it off!

but protective against what? There's no way of making contact with the grille above, and all it does is get dirty.

Did you have any problems after it came off?

Mine's still on...........never really thought about removing it TBH

It's to protect the bumper from the grill during transport IIRC. some dealers remove it at PDI, some leave it on.

aha! Thanks Roo! The edges have peeled in the sumer heat and its a gummy dirt-trap. Now I can get up close and personal with it.......

Yep, Roo's correct. I removed mine on its first valet. ;)

There you go see...question answered....knew if i started the ball rolling the official anorak brigade would come charging through...

mine was there on my original front bumper , bodyshop neglected to fit a new one when they replaced the bumper , but not too bothered anyway

With repeated bonnet opens and shuts, the area does get damaged. My old bonnet used to really leave some marks in the bumper when it was shut. Now it's resprayed, I'm worried it will go the same way again. I wonder if I can adapt some kind of "sticker" to go on there? Hmmmm. :)

can't beat simple!

You could build a car from sticky back plastic, spit and Alsatian droppings.

Just ask John Noakes and Valerie Singleton:thumbup:
