First service, but low mileage

Featured Replies

In about eight weeks I will be getting the vrs it's first ever service. My mileage is very low though, I estimate it will be only about seven thousand miles or just over by the time march 1rst comes around.

How does this servicing lark work and how will my low mileage affect the first one, if atall? Basically I don't know what I'm doing and want to be forwarned on what my car may or may not need doing for this first one.

Thanks :o

You just need a 1 year annual service (inc inspection) :D

What do they do exactly? Temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure?

YES! Are you sure you're not a mechanic?:rofl:

Well then, hand me the spanner I could do that myself :D

Can a vrs cough?

Yep, although bad coughing and excessive smoking are bad signs. However unlike people the occational puff is considered quite healthy :P :D

oil+filter change plus whatever they do on an inspection , check stuff i suppose , but IMO the inspection is pointless as they don't even take the wheels off to check the brakes , so you're paying extra for a half-hearted look over the car

Must admit I'd go somewhere else based on my experiences with dealerships, yours may be good though ;)

Mine was serviced and they 1) didn't do what they should be doing and 2) Didn't spot worn brake pads (they were virtually on the metal) 3) Overcharged massively.

Also ring round as some other members of the VAG group dealers may actually offer a better price (!) - I went for a VW dealer a fair bit away from where I live and STILL saved 100 quid, which allowed me to take SWMBO with me and go watch a movie/have a bite to eat and still be better off financially compared to going 'local'.

Read your service manual, it states what they do in there for every inspection or even better phone the dealer and ask them when you book it in, or use the search facility on these forums :finger:;)

Just a regular service required Pix - annual including inspection.

However, I need a service too! ;)

Hi Pixi

Service charges seem excessive when few miles have been driven. My understanding is that one has to stick to the service schedule whilst under the car's under warranty and it has to be performed by a Skoda-approved garage.

I'm sure your garage will be happy to show you the inspection schedule, as it should be the standard checks as laid down by Skoda.

This changed a few years ago and now as long as the work is carried out by a VAT-registered garage, using OEM or better parts, and to the manufacturer's spec (which must be available), then warranty work cannot be refused on these grounds. Warranty work must be carried out a Skoda-approved garage though :D

What about if you do any servicing work (Does anyone actually service their own cars these days  ) yourself using Skoda genuine parts ?

Then you risk voiding the warranty :D

Are you considering the first service at Winters Pixi...I'm going in early next week to get them to look at my ashtrays on my Superb....would you like me to ask how much and what it covers for you????

That would be extrememly kind of you, thankyou :)

No probs:thumbup:

Well if we have warrenty work, maybe we could book them up on the 13th and invade winters en mass ;)

i service my VRS with an VAG oil filter from a white box with a Ford sticker over a Vag part number , using Ford oil to the correct VAG 505.01 spec , this seems to be OK with Skoda  and its FOC aswell :D

Is that because Ford use the 130PD in the Galaxy?

Yes they do and I would on my Vrs except as mentioned it would void your warranty and FSSH will ensure a good price is obtained at the end of ownership.

I could give it the once over on Jan 13th for you. :) I know the kind of things they'll look for and your service book details most of it anyway. I'll scan the ECU for any faults which might not be obvious. :)

That sounds like a plan Jase, thanks :D

Unless of course having a non skoda worker scanning my ecu would invalidate my warranty

Still best get it in for a service pixi or u'll be missing a stamp in your book and on the computer records of your car's servicing.

Oh I am going to have it serviced, I just wanted to know whether it would be different because of the low miles. I remember reading on here about different services, lube ones I think :)
