koni FSD's

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone with koni FSD's can give us all a good review of them? Plenty of eilbach reviews but only seen a couple of brief ones on FSD's. I'm just curious to know what they are like and how they affect the vrs?

Anyone?

I would like to know this too, as I think I will be investing in my suspension very shortly, dont mind a hard ride as long as its not to crashy if you know what I mean. Want good dampers basically and to lower about 40-60mm.

You'll need coilovers if you want to go that low, so FSD's aren't really an option for you, not unless your into "chopping" springs :)

P.S. I'd also recommend sourcing one of the few available metal sumpguards when/if they come up in the classified section.

So what are the options then, FSD's + original springs - same height, but want it to be lower to help reduce body roll (ARB to fit too) so what about ebach springs (25mm lower) and FSD's. Are they as good as they are cracked up to be, or would coil overs be better and cheaper? Been doing some reading up and there seem to be very mixed reviews. Dont want ebach dampers as most reviews of those say the standard set up is better or just the springs!

Do they? I've compared cars with eibach springs on stock dampers and eibach springs on eibach dampers and the difference is world's apart. Uprated dampers every time ;):D

I've not seen any reviews that say using stock dampers is better?

I've seen several posts where people have not bothered with uprated dampers because they didn't want to spend the money until the OEM ones started going, which is fair enough from a money angle, but you won't get the best out of it.

Here's the review I've been looking at:

Granted, it's not just the dampers, but that plus the bumf on the Koni site has mostly convinced me.

I do a lot of spirited driving on 'less than perfect' roads, never a track day in my life. So hard shocks and stiff springs will (I think) see me skitting across the bumps and potholes. The FSD's seem to be able to absorb the less evil bumps whilst stiffening up when needed.

I'm still in two minds to be honest though. I'd like to try a FSD setup and see what the nose-diving and lurch on accelleration is like, really. If that's toned down a lot or completely gone I really can't see any other choice for my driving needs.

An interesting r/v that one I've read it before but anyone out there thats had FSD's a while and can give another r/v?????

I've had the FSD, Eibach + ARB combo for a while now and although the car corners a LOT better than standard I still have a couple of issues. Firstly, the car still seems like it should be more planted on bumpy roads (due to heavy front end probably) and secondly, the car sits higher with the FSD's fitted than it did with just the springs. Despite this, I still think this combo is the best all round. HTH:thumbup:

Not being planted on bumpy roads could well be down to the ARB...... :D

Don't think so coz it was like that before it was fitted. Besides, I could never take that off :D:rofl:

Just to add to my review here:

That was with standard 16" wheels. With 17" wheels the ride is noticeably harder but the ride is still better than just having lowering springs on stock dampers. I think the FSD's are a compromise between stock suspension and coilovers, they aren't as harsh as the latter but you don't get a decent drop with them either (Koni and Eibach combination will get you around -25mm drop, coilovers much more). I've been using the springs and dampers for around 7k now but the ride height stil hasn't dropped from when the suspension was fitted. Wonder if they will ever bed in :s Comparing it to Fabookas and Cheekymonkeys vRS's with just Eibachs, their cars seem much lower compared to mine.

And didn't Koni and Eibach recently release a package with the FSD dampers and Eibach springs included? Must be a decent combination :D

Despite what people think, lowering a car does not reduce body roll much, if at all, its the stiffer springs that reduce body roll and uprated ARB's

I wonder if Koni have any plans to introduce coilovers with an FSD insert... that will tick everyone's boxes then :)
