I have recently found this forum but I have been a Octavia II 2.0TDI Elegance owner for just over 2 years, 40,000+ miles with two services at 19,000 & 38,000 miles respectively.

Having read a number of threads from members I too am pleased with the overall performance of the car but have found the usual niggles.

Juddering clutch, when car is cold, for the first couple of miles but not always, very strange.

Knocking noise from the boot area when on very poor roads, possible rear seat catch problems?

Stream radio, which unless the signal from the BBC is excellant, makes the person either speaking or singing sound as if they are gargling a glass of water at the same time. Dealer has changed radio and increased the gain from the RF preamplifer all to no avail. CD is great, so its not the audio side.

Would I have another one, not sure.

Just a thought on the knocking noise, maybe the retaining nut that holds the spare wheel down is loose and the spare wheel is knocking about on rough roads? Failing that, loose items either in the spare wheel well (tools etc.) or just something unrestrained in the boot?

If the knocking noise is more recent then you may have a worn bush.

There was a fix for poor radio reception on some of the early cars although I would have hoped that your dealer would have attempted that.

Thanks for the advice, the radio had a software update by the dealer some 12+ months ago prior to swapping of radio.

I've checked for loose spare wheel and any tools but thats not the problem, mores the pity. I did think that it might be a loose rear parcel shelf but it wasn't.

I will keep looking and best wishes for the New Year to all.

Hi and welcome

Just wondered what other things make you unsure about getting another as I was considering one to replace my primera. I've never had a diesel so that would be a big change for me. It's got to be reliable as I tend to keep my car's for quite a while and I tow!

Hi Vulcan,

My 2.0TDI is very reliable, it has never failed or broken down and I'm averaging about 61 to 62 mpg over 20,000 miles a year according to the on-board computer, the 30 to 70 acceleration is good but off the line is not so good as my clutch is a bit fierce.

My main overall impression is that its very good as a work horse but if you want something a bit more involving you will need step up to a more sporty model or look elsewhere.
