New Year = New Car Insurance Quote Time!

Featured Replies

Oh hell, it's new year and that can only mean one thing..... shelling out a small fortune on car insurance. Great. :mad:

Just been doing the usual rounds on the 'net and can I find anyone for once willing to beat the firm with the little red 'phone?

Can I eck as like! :rofl:

Non-modded Fabia vRS parked on drive, only acquired in Sept 06, 05 plate and average annual mileage of 23k, 9 yrs NCD (protected), no accidents, no points and only

All I can say is..........

I WISH!!!

Goes away to cry over the fact that I am 20 years old, with no NCB on a non standard car.

Unfortunately it doesn't get much cheaper with age either Emily :(

That might be because I drive a group 16 Octy vRS (which as you know is not quite standard ;) ) and am male which most insurance companies seem to regard as an excuse to tell you to bend over and take it :rolleyes:

@ E-E

28 y.o. with standard car except for Tracker, parked on drive, 6 years NCB, still can't get below 500 quid!

It's a postcode lottery, and little else... :thumbdwn:

I posted this in an earlier thread today:

Ive been doing my rounds today for my renewal at the end of jan.

9 years no claims, Protected, No Points, all excess's at £250

All Internet Quotes.

I know they are custom to myself, but it will give you a guide.

Elephant = £545.20

Directline = £588.00

Swinton = £632.44

AA = £655.16

Admiral = £660.45

Virgin = £666.75

Budget = £684.21

Sainsburys = £695.51

Endsleigh = £719.01

Churchill = £936.60

Norwich Union = £1181.00

Little red phone was good for me, but elephant beat it if i pay up front.

I tend to pay by monthly payments so the cheapest quote isnt always the cheapest over the year. Cheeky buggas charge up to 30% APR.

Waiting for my renewal before i take anybodys offer up, but would be good to know who people are getting there quotes from.

Try morethan. They sorted me right out even with my newly acquired three points.

I went for a quote on confused.com. Got a massive list of insurers who wouldn't insure me and no actual quotes. :rofl:

Good old L.V. I still paid £600 this year - 27 y.o, modified car, accident 3 years ago, VERY good postcode for insurance - doesn't help.... At least the mods are covered which is really more important.

Have you tried Swift Cover? web based no call centres

min is due in about 6 weeks and was checking over the break using the money supermarket one and they came up with a fantastic quote. which when I went direct came down even further

Have you tried Swift Cover? web based no call centres

I got a great quote from these guys: £463.76 with only a £200 excess.

Top bananas

EDIT: Then i added the hidden protected no claims and it shot up £104, but still not bad.

my Lupo is group 6, and I'm paying £900 fully comp, with a £250 excess :(

Fabia vRS should come in £150 more, apparently

I'm a 20-year-old male

And I thought I had a hard time when it came to car insurance:

27 year old single, employed male,

1 year NCB

'56 2.0 TDI L&K (no mods!)

£250 excess

I guess my postcode down in SW Wales must be fairly favourable, as I`m only (only!) paying £620 for the year through Budget, whom I found through either MoneySupermarket or Confused.

My best so far is MORETHAN at £484.91 a year. works out at £42.83 a month.

Protected no claims, garanteed hire car and legal cover.

Think this is the best im going to get.

Thanks to wega3k for pointing out MORETHAN, they totally slipped my mind.

Money supermarkets insurance service also seems better than confused.com,

the results seem to be way cheaper.

More Than sorted me for the end of this month.

Standard Mk1 Octavia vRS, 10yrs no claims, 33 yrs old, no points etc...

I just renewed today. £470 with the red phone brigade. 8 years NCD, no points (just had 3 expired) and class 1 business cover, hire car etc. The only other people to get close were Sainsbury's but they had a mega excess of £500.

Annoying thing is my dad is only paying £250 on a Group 13 Golf TDI and he keeps hitting stuff!

Chris Knott beat my MORETHAN quote with £450 and £200 excess and an open mod policy, so all modes are covered at no extra cost. 3rd party Insurnce on other cars also included.

Hi all

well, my last year in the vRS (fab) was £670....my first year after having a company car for 3 years.....i went to A Quote Insurance VIA PHONE and they were amazing. i had lost all my NCBs cos of the company car but with a cover note from my previous insurer they gave me 6 years back......so this year they offered me £630...which is rubbish....si i phoned them and made up a figure and said i had been quited £450...they bettered it by £20....i then phoned back and said swift had offered me £380 (a lie).....they said ok then....we will do it for £375 using norwich union and their gold package (full RAC cover in europe), £100 excess (i asked for £250 but they did it for less) and all the usuals......c. car, legal protection, and protected my NCBs.

amazing. try them out!! well worth it!

ps. i am 26, drive a furby vRS, have no points, no accidents and do 15,000m pa, park it on the street and my wife hwo has 9!!! points drives it too.

excellent. very pleased. 2 phone calls saved me a fortune!

Chris Knott has done it again:thumbup:

Just received my renewal from esure but decided to give CK a call out of curiosity (never used them before).

Superb Elegance V6, 03 Reg, 11 years protected ncb, no convictions or claims, 2 named drivers, fully comprehensive, garaged overnight and a post code 15 miles from central Glasgow. No mods, 8000 miles a year, excess

The prices and web based services seem great - all goes to pot when you have to make a claim though.....

I certainly won't be fooled by their low prices again :mad:

UPDATE:

Well, my insurance is up tomorrow and in the end, did find someone to beat Direct Line.

My dad's local insurance broker in fact - where he's been renewing his cover all his life!

I had been with DL for 10 years as I couldn't find anyone at all to beat them.

Plus, I don't get the hassle of sorting out claims etc. over the phone - just a quick call into the brokers and they take care of the rest.

So, Protected NCD, Fully Comp, Hire Car, Free Legal Cover, £125 vol. excess for £379. This will be underwritten with Zurich. The broker is matching any Direct Line renewal word for word - my saving is because DL charge £20 for legal cover but the broker will throw it in for nowt.

Might have only saved myself £20, but it's £20 in my pocket and not theirs!

I was pretty pessimistic about getting a bit drop on the insurance, was with Chris Knott who seemed to make an effort to get the lowest price 12 months ago, but had a look around, and much like some of the others above was pretty amazed by MoreThan ...

28yo male no points unmod'd 03 Octy vRS fairly low miles/year

last year £560

this year £350

me = :-)

oh forgot to say - full protected no claims

Admiral Multicar saved us a fortune this year compaired to Direct Line who we had been with for the last 7years ( and despite trying, they couldn't do anything to match Admirals prices for same level of cover ).

Personally me and wife driving my 04 Fabia VRS was

Maybe if somebody in this country did something about the little f**ks that drive uninsured, say perhaps hang them if caught, then insurance wouldn't be so high.

The reason prices have gone up so much is that people drive without insurance, partly because the fine if caught is less than the cost of insurance by a long way. :(
