Actually 1 year 11.5 months :). Was first registered on the 20th Jan 2003. Which means he has a car 2 weeks older than my vRS  . Which in a strange way I am glad off as I like having a newer car than my Dad.

Will be 2 years unlimited or up to 3 years or 60,000 miles, whichever is sooner - so as long as the miles don't get racked up then, yes Jason, at least another 2 years of warranty left! Does sound like a serious bargain to me.

DOH! -sorry, I read "2003" as "53" and assumed it was a post-March03 reg'd car... silly me!

Still sounds like a good deal, and just goes to show what deals can be reached when you're a cash buyer (and stubborn. no offence) :D

edit: I've also just realised that this thread title was worthless as he ended up dis-regarding all petrol choices. :D Nothing like a nice oil-burner.

We don't have the same number plate system in N. Ireland. Our plates are 3 letters followed by 4 digits. There are several licensing areas each that have their own sequence. For example a 1999 Belfast plate would have been ACZ 3776 for example. So we always talk about used cars by the registration year, ie 2003. (My vRS has an English registration, it was bought in Manchester new).

Yes my Dad was stuborn in his negotiations, but I think that Denis the sales man wanted to sell it so he could get a new car for his own use ;) .

aha - I kind of elected to ignore where you were from... I didn't even know N.I had a different system - just shows how ignorant of it I am...

When the old annual letter plate system was introduced on the mainland, Northern Ireland was still governed by its own parliament in Belfast (Stormont), so in most cases laws passed at Westminster etc only applied in N. Ireland if also passed by Stormont. The effect was theat N. Ireland continued using the type of system England etc had had in the past. With a population of only 1.6 million the type of plates we have give plenty of permeatations.

Forgot to mention that I had a drive in both Fabia's as well. I think the TDi is much better to drive than the 1.2 12v petrol, but in comparison with either Octavia that my family own I didn't particularly like either. Seemed a bit cramped compared with my old Felicia's or the Octys. Still if Iowned it and had a chance to play with all the adjustments I am sure to have found a better driving position. Was very lucky with the Felicia which had minimal adjustment but was dead on for me.

I did like the pull from the TDi engine. I have only ever driven an SDi Skoda (an Octy loan car for a day), and the TDi is a great improvement.

I'm enjoying a similar experience - a month of a 1.2 polo, to another TDI Fabia. I do love the pull of the TDI again, especially uphill when the polo refused to speed up, even slowing down sometimes.

If you liked the pull as standard you should feel it after being chipped...! More like being brutally dragged along, than pulled. :D

The pull of the car is amazing esp. in second or 3rd gear. I have to say that the TDi an amazing engine. I shockenly enough have never driven a petrol car on the public road though!

Actually I like the drivng position in the Fabia. Lower the seat as low as it goes and as far back as possible for athentic racing car feel :P

Fabia...athentic racing car feel :P

As I said the test drive was short and I only moved the seat back far enough for myself, didn't alter height or look for steering wheel adjustments. I am sure if it was me and not my dad buying it I would find a good position with a bit of time. It took a while getting comfy in both Octys as well.
