20k mile service - what needs doing?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've got the furby booked in tomorrow for a 20k mile service and just want to check whats involved. A far as I am aware theres the oil, oil filter and air filter? It's not a Skoda dealer doing the service but they use Skoda parts so warranty isn't affected (apart from the mods lol).

Is it worth changing the cabin filter and fuel filter etc as these don't cost much? And should I ask the garage to check/change anything else?

Think the pollen/odour filter is done at 20k, but the air filter is done at 40k :D

Chris

Oil + filter, pollen filter, drain fuel filter, check/top up gearbox oil.

As Chris says, air filter isnt done til 40k.I think it points all this out in the service book tbh.

fuel filter defo changed and not just drained, according to my Skoda Dealer Service Guide

thanks for that guys, will dig out the service guide now, need it for tomorrow anyway

Tick sheets at my place of work say:

10k = Oil + Filter change.

20k = As I mentioned above.

40k = Oil + Filter.Air and pollen filter and fuel filter change on diesels.Spark plugs on petrols.

Unless you're running bio-diesel, where it'll be 10k fuel filter drain, 20k fuel filter change.

Just had mine done at 20k - oil change & new filter. Cost was just under

Well I got the car back today. Had the air filter cleaned (green cotton), oil + filter changed, waiting on a fuel filter as they couldn't get the correct one and they checked the gearbox oil and the other levels etc. They canged the cabin filter but the fan makes a weird noise whenit's on so i'll get them to check it next week. They also did the tracking (which isn't right as steering wheel isn't central so thats going back) and fixed the sensor for the xenons. Came to just over £250 which is a lot but they did spend a lot of time with the lights etc.

Fuel filter isnt required until 40k by the service schedule.

I know it

Skoda advise the timing belt + tensioner should be changed at 4year intervals.Regardless of mileage covered, unless it's recommended mileage is done before the 4 years are up.

Example: We've done a timing belt on a 16v Fabia that was 5 years old and only covered 16,000 miles or so.

The water pump isn't strictly advised by Skoda (techies get told to check for play,weeping etc) but an owner can request the water pump to be changed with the belt + tensioner and I'm sure most garages will not add any additional labour time.
