Dealer swap 16"wheels for 17's

Featured Replies

Not sure this is in the right thread but.....

I've got a 51 plate vRS, it's a UK sourced car but it's only on 16's instead of 17's. Not sure if it was like this from the factory or if they've been changed at some point....

Was told in the past that people have been able to get the dealer to swap 16's for 17's for free as the car should have them....

Was it you?!?

Can anyone point me to the post?

How do you get several hundred pounds of new wheels and tyres out of a dealer?

Si,

Some of the early RS's did come with 16's, so that sounds like your car.

I doubt if a dealer would do a free swap, as the wheels are correct for the specification at the time it was built.

Worth a try though ;)

The 16's were stopped on a 'Y' plate so I think as a '51' it should have the 17's.

Jon (TaviaRS) was telling me someone on this forum was able to get their dealer to swap their 16's for 17's free of charge

Perhaps a silly question, but is your car a hatchback or estate? If it is the estate it is supposed to have 16inch wheels.

I have the April 01 brochure for the RS at home and it clearly states that the car comes with 17" alloy wheels. Some really early ones slipped through on 16's but these were used by the press for reviews etc.. I reckon the dealer you got yours from had an early one, and in order to secure the deal they swapped the 16's for 17's and vice versa.

LLblake is the guy who successfully got the dealer to swap the wheels on his vRS when new because of the same thing. They were reluctant at first though, I think he just mentioned the brochure and the imortal words "trading standards" and things moved along nicely.

Oh, and I have an early model Y reg and its on 17's

I also ahave a vRS with 16's.

I got a good deal partly because of it. Do you think I could now get the dealer to swap them for 17's for free?!

Alternatively, does anyone have a set of 17's going cheap?

It's a hatch.

Have heard it doesn't matter how old the car is, they should swap the wheels.

Sounds unlikely but i've got my fingers crossed!!

Are you returning to the dealer you purchased the car from?

Did they not mention the 16's when you bought it?

First i'll try my closest dealer.

No wasn't mentioned when i bought the car (and serves me right for looking at the car in the dark!)....(twice!)

Would find it v. unlikely a dealer would swop for free but definately worth a try. Before I bought mine I had a look at a 51 plate vRS also on 16's. When I pointed this out to the dealer he replied that as a 'condition of sale' he would swop them for 17's.
