Questions - Contract Hire...

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about the possiblility of contract hire (personal).

1. Has anybody done it?

2. What was your experience?

3. What kind of condition do they expect it in when you return it? Stonechips, scuffed alloys, miniscule dents... etc

4. **Did you have any trouble with the condition when returning it?

5. What do you make of the Alfa Brera 2.4 JTD? :P

I would do it if they would let me do any mileage! I can get a better deal than the straight finance I do now, but they would limit me to 25,000 miles a year, and I do 50k a year, so I stuck :(

yashicamat has contract hire I think :)

Chris - Please think carefully about the alfa

Nice Cars - I had a 156 - but an absolute nightmare. I had one on PCP and it took me 3 years to get out of debt (I handed it back after a year and it took 3 years of a bank loan) to sort.

Reliability was also hopeless. Total rear suspension re build on mine at 3 months old. And I was lucky.

If you can find a darned good dealer who will honour the warranty and not leave you in the lurch AND you have a back up car - go for it. But be aware it may not be the best financial decision.

My uncle had a GTV for years with no problems, then a 156 with zero problems. I do know someone else however, who had a nightmare with a 147. I just hope, should I go ahead, I'm luckier...

I believe and hope that the new Alfas are better, I've heard that they have dropped loads of dealers as they weren't making the grade + they are trying to improve their services, believe it of not but there aiming for Lexus in next years JDM power survey!! :D:o

I'm not too worried about problems (and it is only for a year) as I have access to another car should worst come to the worst! And I live so close to an Alfa dealer, I could almost push the car there! ;)

Chris

My understanding is that contract hire can have quite a sting if you need to return the car early, whereas a PCP is more forgiving.

My car is on a PCP at 30k miles per year although Skoda will only go to 25K

This site has some good info and comparisons on finance methods

As for return damage, most follow the guidelines set by the BVRLA, which basically means it should be commensurate with the age & mileage (ie light scratches, wear & tear is acceptable, big gouges, dents, etc, are not). Stonechips would be fine. scuffed alloys would be borderline. You can always request a copy of the BVRLA guidelines if these are what they go by.

To reply to your response in the for sale thread Chris, I'd be interested to hear what you think of the Brera after you've driven it.

thanks for the link... just e-mailed them to see if they'll stretch to 50k p/a... they appear to go to 40k p/a at the moment......

Not a problem, that site isn't a recommendation though as I don't know anything about them.

My car came via Advanced Vehicle Leasing in Stockton who I was very happy with.

Lex free choice go to 50k miles/year on PCP.

Dan

sweet , so they do! I'll contact them too!
