Possible swap with a difference ;)

Featured Replies

Bit of a feeler at the moment, as I'm awaiting liberation of my current ECU ;)

Basically I bought a brand new ECU with standard map for my car so I can get it mapped up cleanly by APS for my current hardware.

Once that is done, I will have an ECU with a custom code phase 1 remap on it, which I would like to swap for a standard ECU.

The car has to be a Fabia vRS, and it must not have had ANY trial software on it. I really want a standard map.

The proposed swap would be as follows:

1. Find mutually agreed date to visit a tuner nearby where I live. This COULD be APS in Brackley or JKM in Portsmouth, or maybe a different one nearer to me.

2. Get custom coded ECU coded to 'your' car. Ensure it works ok. This map is the phase 1 generic map, so it is suitable to a standard turbo etc.

3. Once that one works, flash standard map for my car into the ECU and ensure the car works (i.e. not immobilised etc).

4. You would pay for the labour/charges involved. I am not sure currently what these would be, but I'm thinking about 1 hour labour and potentially a recoding fee of some sort if one applies. Guessing < 150 quid ought to be enough, but I will make some enquiries.

5. Post-payment, drive off and enjoy :)

As my car is currently not running I am not able to commit to a date just yet, but I would like to find out if someone might be interested in this possible option.

I believe the phase 1 is about 170ish bhp, perhaps a bit higher, perhaps a bit lower, I don't want to claim the real figures as I haven't RRed it myself. The custom-code website gives some ideas as to what it would do.

Drop me a PM if you are interested ;) - I won't disclose who I do the swap with or who is interested unless you do so yourself.

It shouldn't require any 'flashing' simply to enter the 4 digit SKC's for each vehicle. This would also be a reversible process so if there were any problems you wouldn't be left high and dry.

The ECU's should have the same part number and same software revision (the same final two letters of the part number).

With Custom Code being in excess of £500 this could be a nice deal for somone considering Custom Code.

Stu,

So all thats needed to swap ECu is the 4 digit SKC code. This can be done with Vag-com cant it? I'm sure I read it on there site.

I've done it myself - very easy to do - impossible really to damage either ECU.

If you use search - there should be a post I put up when I did so.

Completely reversible, and this is really a chance for a great deal - I'm really happy with the mapped ECU I got from Stu - MUCH better than the oneclick and less smoky..

Adapting the "new" mapped ECU took all of 10 mins.....

Cheers

Bas

Yeah it isn't too hard to do, only catch is having the tag with 4 digits on, which I am going to have to find back :)

If you don't have it then the codes can be obtained from the dealers.

Indeed :)

I've got a few interests so far, will go on first come first serve basis based on pricing I will be obtaining.

It is not something you can just swap & try, it will be a 'swap & pay for the swap' arrangement, if something goes wrong then that's different but otherwise it is as per my original post ;)

Currently I reckon we're looking at the back end of February to get this arranged.
