Heavy Interior Condensation

Featured Replies

Hi all. Having a problem with Mrs R's Fabia vRS and wondered if anyone had any ideas.

The past few months have been exceptionally wet in the West of Scotland and we have noticed in the mornings that the inside of the windscreen and rear window are quite wet.

Last night was quite cold and there was a frost this morning but the inside of the car took longer to scrape than the outside:eek: There was a really thick layer of ice on the inside of the windscreen and rear window and the side windows were also quite damp. After a 7 mile drive into the city with the heater/fan on full there was still water running down the inside of the windscreen.

There are no obvious signs of water ingress in that the carpets, seats etc are not damp but the inside of the windows seems to suffer really heavy condensation.

Any thoughts what might be causing this?

Cheers

Rondo

Has she been driving with the air vent switch closed (e.g. to cut out the smell when following diesels)? Have you tried running the air con for a while to see if it dries it out?

Have you lifted the floor mats to feel the carpets themselves? Also have a feel of the lower part of the inner door skins. These may be damp. If so the door seals have gone inside the door.

Failing that, make sure the drain beneath the wiper arms is clear of leaves etc. Otherwise this can overflow into the passenger footwell.

Yeh im getting the same problem, I am rather confused!

I have put a large bag of silica gel underneath the handbrake too but it has not done anything.

I might take mine to the garage as it is steamed up every morning!

You need to use your air con, it will significantly reduce condensation as it's not just ment for making things cold!

I never turn mine off.

As above, check under the rear mats. Mine was also always full of condensation with no apparent leaks, but then I put my hands under the rear mats and it was soaking. Diagnosed and needs new door seals and carpet under warranty. Plus smells of old socks. :thumbdwn:

I too get this lately, i`ll have a look later and see if there`s any dampness inside the car, if there is it puts the list of not happies up again.:(

With this weather dampness inside is usually caused by water somewhere inside the car, even a tiny amount left overnight can cause the windows to condensate. My old mondeo had a small tiny damp patch in the boot carpet where water had leaked in through the light cluster, and every morning without fail the back windows were dripping inside. Dried it all out and the condensation also went.

Thanks for the responses. May have to get dealer to look at it. I can't find any obvious dampness in the carpets, boot etc

I have the rear door leaks problem in my 2002 Fabia. Bottoms of the door cards are soaking. Can't fix this myseltf because I don't have a garage and it rains every day in Wales at the moment - hence the problem with the leak!

Of course this wasn't covered by the independent dealer's warranty :(

So phoned the dealer who knew the problem, quoted 250 inc. VAT to do the repair. Didn't think that was too bad but they can't do the work for two weeks.

However phoned my local garage who put me onto their body shop who quoted me 75 + VAT and will do a full leak test on all the doors and start on Monday - they would do it tomorrow but I need the car then!

Worth shopping around!

P.S.

This is covered elsewhere but is spread through other threads.

(this is a summary of what is posted elsewhere + my own observations so apologies for innaccuracies)

It seems that:

Wet rear carpets (easiest to detect as dampness on the backs of the floor mats), water on the inside of the rear door seal, staining on the door trim, wet door cards and condensation = water carrier seal isn't working. This mainly affects the rear doors.

Wet front carpets, condensation, wet rear carpets but none of the above symptoms = air con draining into the car or blockage in the freshair box drain hole (probably leaves)

Condensation but none of the above = damp pollen filter, window left open in the rain ;)

  • 1 month later...

Does anyone have a picture of the door seal cause I can't figure out what you guys mean by it. Is it the rubber between the door and the chassis or a rubber inside the door?

Grtz

thx Chrispy
