Tax goes on CO2 emissions, not cubes, on newer cars. So, since the Furbie's a diesel, it emits less CO2.

Pre 2001 the tax rates are fixed, and are based on engine size.

It goes off CO2 Emissions..

The 1.8T pumps out a lot more CO2 than a 1.9 PD130

Just tried to VED my octy via the web and tried to do it by phone ,both times the dvla said "your car is not insured ".Checked with insurers and they said I was insured and described the DVLA system as "total crap " and they get hundreds of calls from worried motorists . My insurance runs july to july so not recently taken out. My question is do the police use the same database and am I going to get stopped for having an uninsured car ?

That strikes me as being "bad wording" by the DVLA. Not all motor insurers actually supply data to their database, and both they and the police are perfectly well aware of the fact.

Which insurance company is this, they need to subscribe to the central database where all the records are kept. If they dont then you will show as uninsured to more things than the dvla computer, increasing your chances of being stopped. Eg. an ANPR camera car, or roadside check.
