INSP light at 10 months, 13500 miles?

Featured Replies

I've an 06 Vrs, this evening I started the car to be greeted with the INSP indicator. The car had an oil change about 3500 miles ago, the beginning of November. I wasn't expecting the indicator to come on til 1st March, 1 year after buying the car new.

Is the INSP a simple date based thing or does it acutally take things such as driving style, etc into account? Does it keep track of how many miles you have done since the INSP came on, or can I just ignore it til March when it'll get it's annual service - when its acutally due one according to the schedule.

Cheers

I may be totally wrong, but I thought it must take driving style into account. After taking the Furby round the 'Ring last October the insp indicator came on when driving home. The car was due it's 2nd annual service about 2 weeks after that so perhaps it was just coincidence tho.

You've done a lot of mileage, mine's got less than yours and it's 2 years and 3 months old!

I believe it is date based. It certainly isn't very smart.

Yep, date based. When I had mine, it came on when the same day the car reached its first birthday.

There's something about setting back to zero in the manual.

Can't remember exactly how, though.

Something to do with the trip meter and holding this down for 10 seconds on first starting up the car - BUT I am not sure (and I would have thought holding down the trip button would reset the trip). May be you have to twist the trip to the left or right.

I did spot it in the manual though so you'll have to double check there - unless some kind person chips in soon.

I would have thought it would go on date i.e. 1 year from the previous service, but will also count down on mileage i.e. 10,000 miles from the previous one and come on whichever is reached first.

It's only as good as the data it is fed with, I suspect that it has come on 12 months after the car has been built and was not reset before delivery, they usually come on about 3 weeks or a 1000 miles early to give you time to get it booked in.

To reset the inspection or oil change warning....

Push in mileage reset and turn to right.

Turn ignition on and hold until you get 3 lines on the display

this has now been reset!!!

got this info from an ex skoda franchise!!!

The date countdown gives you the "INSP" in the display, whereas the miles countdown gives you the spanners display.
