Avus alloys

Featured Replies

Forgive my ignorance on this subject:

I've been offered a set of Avus 2 16" alloys for a nice price, question is will they fit, and what size tyres will keep the rolling radius for speedo accuracy.

Cheers

You got a photo of them? I can't picture them.

I'm guessing they're originally VW or Audi items? As long as they a 5x100 fitment and an offset of around 35-38 you should be fine.

205/45/16s would be my tyre choice for them.

Steve

There is a tyre calculator on here where you can put in your current tyre size and also what you are considering.

It gives a comparison of the dimensions in each case, and tells you if the rolling radius is out by more than is recommneded.

Not sure if you need Freedom to use it or not - maybe someone without Freedom can confirm whether the above link works or not.

Or just cough up your

Yep, that's a Freedom perk Andy. A non-Freedom user clicking that link is taken to the Freedom info page.

But seeing as they fit 205/45/16s to the standard Fab vRS wheel, I'd do the same. So he doesn't really need the calc anyway :D

Thanks for the advice chaps, ET is reportedly 35, they have 195/65 on at the moment with not much meat left, and the wheels are in perfect condition so I think I'll have them.

Just need a set of Skoda centre caps now.

Sound fine then - would still like to see some pics as I don't know which ones they are :D

They are the chunky 6-spokes. They look very, very good on a Furby in my opinion.

Are they the ones that were fitted to the later models of the audi S2? Very nice looking wheels. I would imagine they would look good on a furby.

Avus wheels are audi S3 wheels aint they, if so they are 17 inch!

Im fairly certain the ones on the S2 are 16"

The car pictured is definitely an RS2. Do you mean these wheels? Because they're a 17 as well. Standard tyre fit was a 225/45/17 IIRC.

Steve

Oh right, I see - I'd considered that you might have meant those, but hoped it was another design. Yep, they're Avus-II.

Just look a bit bland to me. What price are they, if you don't mind me asking?

Steve

Ah, i was thinking the audi s3 wheels for some reason :S

Avus 2 wheels are 15" not 16" the tyre size you mention as already been fitted would also back this up as they are the correct size for 15's on a golf, 16's would have 205/55.

£150 ...

So you are saying they are 15" ?

Sod that, I'd rather have a set of 16" vRS alloys.

Ah, i was thinking the audi s3 wheels for some reason :S

You think that for a reason, because the wheels fitted to the S3 are also called Avus! - can't remember which number or varient they named them though.

It's all very confusing!

Me too - or that style anyway.

I want a set of S3 Avus alloys on my Octy - just gotta save up!

Not that expensive, i sold a set with brand new front tyres fr £200 a few months ago on ebay!

I saw a set recently on Ebay go for just over £250 - they were in Glasgow as well.

The thing I like about S3 Avus is that there are no aftermarket copies AFAIK whereas RS4/RS6/A8s there are.

This means theoretically that there should be less on the roads - I certainly have not seen an Octy with S3s fitted.

Plus they will be much more easy to clean than standard Octy alloys

Yep - you've just gotta wait and find the right set. The ones I got for my Fab came from here and were £225 IIRC, mint and with near new decent rubber. With hindsight, I should have definitely kept them. Ah well

Was contemplating another set, for the Ibiza this time. May still do that - as you say, they are pretty rare. I've not seen replicas being sold either. The only thing that puts me off, daft as it sounds, is that I have a private plate starting 'S3' so will I look like some kind of S3 wannabe in a Seat?!

EDIT: Another thing that put me off another set of these was the fact I couldn't seem to find any non-Audi centre caps, because they're such an odd size. If anyone knows any different, I'd be very interested! Sorry for the thread hi-jack Blackbird! :o

They do look rather good on saloon cars (see my previous toledo)
