Featured Replies

Finally done it, Ive ordered my new fabia vRS today from FR Pulleyn at York. Black Magic, with Xenons, ESP and airbag de activation all for

Congrats  Im sure you will be pleased with your purchase and be modding in no time;)

You wont be dissapointed, the main problem will be keeping off the gas till its run in :-)

 Now that will be hard

I still got 6 weeks left :(

Just remember, good things come to those who wait

I know... but I'm not known for my patience lol

And I'm in two minds about cancelling it and going for a run-out edition...

don't drive it gentle at all, drive like its your bosses hire car from day one, you will use a bit more oil and the engine will only last 200,000 miles instead of 300,000 but it will be more powerful for it!

this has been said by many tuners and people in the trade and i for one believe it as i thrashed my works van from day one and it seems to go very wel compared to some and runs perfect

Agreed - "hard run-in" is the future

I dont know about full scale cars as I have never ran one in but model car engines this is definatly true for max performance.

Start her up and get her on the track = max performance

Start her up and stand her on a brick for 1+ hour = max endurance

Didnt expect it to be the same for big cars tho

engines is engines.

To be honest, with the torque available from this engine you shouldn't need to exceed 3k and yet still leave a lot of cars behind.

But, there's a guy with a different point of view to running in car engines.

I leave it up to you to decide - it does make for interesting reading though.

engines is engines.

 Didnt realise :P

Fascinating, but it only deals with the engine - and this guy has largely concentrated on the pistons/piston rings. I feel there is more to running in a whole car than that.

Only my opinion, but I think the guy talks a lot of sense and I would think these are the main factors to worry about - as they are the ones subject to the greatest temperatures, stresses etc.

I can only speculate - my car had done 15k when I got it so I couldn't do any of what he espouses. But, I repeat, much of what he says makes sense to me e.g machining improvements, tolerances, warm up engine etc. etc.

Hey,

You do not need to run in your new fabia. What they state in the owners manual is rubbish. Warm the car up.... 90 degrees, then thrash the hell out of it. Make sure its within the first 50 miles too. I was reading an article on the web, i will try to find it, that states running a car in gently reduces its performance. Ive never had trouble with running in cars hard. Run hard from new = max performance maybe less life, run soft from new = less power, premature piston wear.

At the end of the day its up to you, but guaranteed you wont keep it more than 3 years, so will be the next owners problem.

Just my 2p.

Must admit i am already on the lookout for bits for some of the more basic mods, ie air filter and pd160 intake, led sidelights to go with the xenons, already. That article on running in is very interesting, i know one or two mechanics, ill quiz them about it.

Grrrr mine has gone to factory order and wont be here until 1st April!

Boooooo!
