Passat 130 tdi- 6 speed 'box?

Featured Replies

I know the pd engines in Skodas and Vw golf/boras come with a 6 speed box but I've seen a couple of Passats advertised with the PD130 engine and a 5 speed box. Is this right. The cars are usually 2003 models.

It's a mate who's looking so I don't want him getting skanked.

Funny I've tried the volkswagen forum but they won't reply, maybe dont want to help a poor pleb who only drives a Skoda.........

It could very well be right.

Think it might depend on if its the "Sport" trim or something.

I've got a PD130 passat, and it only has the the 5 speed box. Only real difference will be that cruising on the motorway will be a slightly lower rpm, and you'll have to stir the box a bit more to access the "more interesting" characteristics.

Thanks gwilo I'll tell my mate the cars he's seen are probablt legit. It's just some one tried to sell me an Octavia 90bhp diesel once claiming it was a 130pd.

Yep, plenty of 5 speed PD130 Passats about. I think the SE, S etc were 5 speed, and the Sport was a 6 speeder.

Parkers agrees with Tom's take on it. Interestingly both cars have the same 0-60 time, but the 6-speed buys 3mph more top end and no differences in mpg!

6-speed only on 130PD 'Sport' trim Passats. Also the 130PD 5-speed gearbox versions have the torque limited to about 210lb ft, only the 6-speed gearbox or the tiptronic have the full 230lb ft. Power is unchanged though.
