When they were looking at introducing the "white only" rule the local papers were full of cabbies complaining that they would all be made bankrupt and homeless as a result of the expense. Ok , so maybe I exagerate a bit but then so did they. They were plenty of them driving round in old Bluebirds and the like at this point and a quick once over to change them white wouldn't have been more than a couple of hundred quid.

Ok , so it's not a small sum , but it's not really the end of the world either. Anyway they introduced this rule and it was phased in giving at least a year for them to change cars or get them resprayed. Instead of just getting the sheds resprayed , plenty of them bought BMWs with alloy wheels and bodykits. So much for "spending £200 will put us out of business".

The best solution I've seen that makes Taxis stand out but doesn't cost the earth is silver cars with a different coloured bonnet. It's something that can be easily done with paint or vinyl , is easy enough to put back to standard , and doesn't make it too hard to find a suitable car.

It certainly looks like it

Try finding someone who will spray a car for
Our local ones have all sorts of cars from 56 plate Mk1 octys , 03 plate 3 series BMWs and some right old sheds - J plate Toyota Carina for example.

The only criteria is that it's white......

Dr Z is in the Midlands.

Anyone been to Glasgow Airport? All the local Renfrew taxis have to be white. Having travelled up and down frequently over the past few years to visit my late mother, I noticed some 3-4 years ago that the Renfrew cabbies suddenly realised that Mk 1 diesel octavias were the way to go.

Guess they're still buying the last ones. In white.
