Oil help please

Featured Replies

My car is currently on variable servicing and if the oil has ever needed topping up i have used Carlube Triple R Synthetic 0w 30 longlife oil which quotes the VW 503.01 spec on the back.

Now i had no oil to top the car up with so sent the wife to get some whilst i was at work. I sent her armed with all the spec numbers and the details of the oil i have bene using to top up.

The guy in the shop has sold her some Carlube Triple R Synthetic 5W 30 oil which says nothing about it being longlife or any other VW spec on the back of the tin. The guy in the shop reckons it meets the new VW 504 spec but it is not quoted anywhere on the oil.

I am intending to get the car serviced in a few weeks anyway when it reaches 30k and am having it put on fixed serviceing by a local independant VAG specialist. But in the meanwhile i need to top my oil up. Is this oil i have been sold ok to use? and is it a longlife oil or not?

I have had a look on the net and can't find much info on Carlube oils and what specs they meet.??

Cheers for any help:thumbup:

It will do for topping up until the next service.

I would personally be scared to use it for a full oil change - however, I back up this feeling with absolutely no solid hard facts

Changing mine to fixed 10k servicing and using what APS rec; 5w40 Synta Gold

The oil should be ok for topping up

VW spec 503 01 is the wrong spec for your car on variable servicing - you should have been using 503 00. The former is specifically for the RS4, and the TT and S3 with outputs of more than 180bhp, Passat W8 and Phaeton W12.

My car has more than 180bhp anyway. I cant see how it would harm anything.

Is the 503.00 stuff 5w 30 or 0w 30???
