Intercooler and dv opinions

Featured Replies

I dont want a real big flashy front mount intercooler, anyone tried the uprated smic that is sold by forge, awesoem gti etc, linky Forge Motorsport

Also i like the idea of their partial atmospheric and recirc dump valve, anyone tried this aswell, opinions welcome, linky

Forge Motorsport

gonna be going to 220 ish power wise, will the standard intercooler take this, i mean during the summer heat soak etc, will the uprated one be ok, help me oh wise ones

Standard intercooler should cope. But for a reliable stronger boost, I'd go for a Front Mount to be perfectly honest. That side mount, I'd say, would be as sufficient as the one you have now, if you were to vent the wheel arch.

That new dump valve is under-testing over on the SCN site.

i must say that i would have to agree with aaron about the front mount cooler iam afraid.

have you thought about getting the frount mount painted black so that it doesn't show through the grill at the front? only an idea to hide it a bit.

as for the part re-circ part atmosphere dump valve, my mate had one on his golf and they sounded very similar to the re-circ bailey one that i have on mine but obviously louder because its atmospheric as well.

my advise would be to try it. if you dont like the sound of it, take it back to the shop or sell it on! it would be interesting to see if it sounds the same as my mates golf.

ABD Racing FMIC............................

Not big or flashy, and sits behind the centre grill.

Not big or flashy

Are you talking about your FMIC?!?!?!!?!?!?!?

Are you talking about your FMIC?!?!?!!?!?!?!?

Yes, it sits behind the centre grill and does not go above the crash bar.

Unlike your Forge one:P

What's young Desmond using?

Jabbasport FMIC...no need to cut the crash bar...not the most expensive...not the cheapest...but certainly one of the best.

Been tried and tested on RS' running from 250bhp to over 3350+bhp...no probs.

Plus you don't really see it behind the grill...unless you really want it to be.

"Young Desmondo"......Adrian your having a Radox:D

I think Des has the Forge or similar as its a big one that requires the bumper and crash bar to be cut about.

The ABD Racing one also sits behind the centre grille and does not go above it, so no need to cut the crash bar or bumper, and you only really notice it if you look directly at the grille. I know Des had the ABD one on his black Octy vRS.

Avator picture has it fitted.

Another vote for the Jabba one, 356 bhp no probs

This is also an excellent product & well priced. It will take yo to just over 300 bhp, for more power the inlet & outlet pipe needs to be bigger but as they are built to order Lloyd can certainly cater for that

SKODA OCTAVIA 1.8 TURBO

i know that daveU is running a pro alloy frount mount. its always worth a thought.

Which one in particular? I see that there are quite a few with the VAG 1.8t fittment..

Have a look at the Impossible Performance web site or ABD Racing site, and have a word with Mike at Impossible Performance on 01634 710777as he imports them.

Yes DaveU is running the big FMIC as is Delcac and some others, but Trevor does not want to run the same big power figures as Dave, so to fit a very large FMIC would be counter productive and "COULD"cause power loss and lag.

Ok..I own up...I know Dave and Des are both running the Jabba FMIC....it's made by Pro Alloy to Jabba's spec.

I had one of my Octy....no problems at all through last Summer....after a hard run the inlet mani would be cold.

I ran this before getting the big turbo and had no problems.

I would say though you should get it remapped to take advantage of the cool inlet charge.

DV = Bailey re-circ (dv30 I thinks its called):thumbup:

FMIC = JabbaSport:thumbup:

The FMIC fits neatly behind the bumper iron, it can be made to look very subtle, and it performs great, in my opinion the d*gs b*ll*cks of a FMIC!

I am biased however.....:D :D :D :D

i dont think i can justify spoending nearly

The Forge SMIC I'm sure is great. But, as it replaces the OEM one, there is still not enough air getting to it if you want to increase to 220brake at a later stage.

A few second hand intercoolers often come up in the For Sale section, so have a look there, and i'll keep an eye out for you.

cheers aaron, this is the one i was looking at in the states just over

I really don't think it's worth it Trev. Pick up a second hand FMIC for £400, or a brand new one close to the £500 bracket.

Id go DIY, look on ebay or source one from a scrapyard from a different car. and get some pipework to fix. It neednt cost you night on a grand!
