I'm planning on buying one because I want to play the F1 game.

I'm still really uming and ahing about this. No PS3 games have really grabbed me so far, and £425 is a lot of cash! I like being an early adopter and got both a 360 and a Wii on launch day, but think I'll wait a while before I go splashing out on one of these, but we'll see. Yearly bonus in March! But wedding in September! And I've got a honeymoon to pay for...

Ouch - that's over NZ$1200 - or twice the price of an XBOX 360

I'll stick with the PS2 for now I think!

The price has put me off.. think I'll wait a couple of years for it to mature (and drop in price)

Simply too expensive, it's half that price in Japan, and even taking into account shipping charges it's a total rip off.

Shame really, if they charged a fair price for it (i.e. the same as every other country) I'd have one in a heartbeat, but i'd never pay more than £300 for one so it looks like it might be a year or so till I get one!

Never mind, got me X-box 360 and the PS2, Gamecube, Dreamcast etc etc!!

If anyone wants a demo, feel free to come round to my house :)

I wish I knew someone who was travelling to Japan and back as the 60gb PS3 costs as little as £300 there now.

tfboy has just come back

Indeed.

It's up and running on my projector. Looks rather good :) Awaiting for some BD movies to turn up now.

Will be interesting to see how well it goes down in the UK. The pricing and just the PS3 in general has many forum members throwing tantrums. Quite funny really

Im putting a little bit by everymonth now until I can actually get one, launch date it March but I dont knw what supply will be like.

I did think about getting a 360/Wii but to be honest I know I will end up buying the PS3 anyhow so might aswell just buy one and get it done with.

All donations accepted.

I wont bother with one until that price is slashed and they have some decent games out. Theres nothing there that makes me think I have to have one. Especially at that price.

Plus sony have been an awful company over the past year with their treatment of the consumer so I dont really want to put money in their pockets anymore.

I agree, no games that interest me at the moment. The price is high at the moment because the blu-ray drive makes up most of the cost. Currently its just to expensive, hopefully the price will come down, but how fast depends on demand. If the player sells poorly, like it currently is in the US and Japan where players sit on the shelves for weeks on end because of price then I would think an early reduction in price is likely. Especially as the Japanese price has dropped already as its having to compete with the Wii.

Same here, I wouldnt mind one but the price is ridiculus! I would wait till the price comes down, and the gremlins get sorted.

Still, bloody good console

This price tag only make sense for people who has a 1080p HD display. No game I am interested yet, but I could give DMC4 a go. :)

definitly gettin one.I like how Sony are at the forefront of technology using the newest technology in their console that will allow it to be future proof.

also as far as people who have one have said, it's literally silent so it can be used as a entertainment hub in your living room and unlike the 360 you won't be annoyed by the hairdryer like fan they have on that.

All in all a marvel at how much technology they have fit into the one box and I can't wait.

Unfortunately the one thing that puts people off is thier lack of knowledge of the product, which tbh is Sony's fault. Again £425 for a blu ray player and a pc/console that can run linux is cheap but not everyone will use all the features and therefore it falls back into the expensive category for them.

COST

I think that £425 is alot for a games console but it's not just a games console. it has many more features that regular console don't have. Blu Ray, WIFI, bluetooth v2 and card readers not including th fact that I can play Gran Turismo pause the game then visit briskoda on the web browser :D

I think I paid £300 for my ps2 when it was released. I play it a few times most weeks and have done nearly 6 and a half years divide the cost by 6 years and thats only £50 a year which is similar to the cost of xbox live subscription per year!

So again for the ps3 I will say 6 years is easily achiveable £70 per year and no subscription fees for online!

Where as xbox 360 is about £50 (divide cost by 6 years) per year + £30 if you want online gaming thats £80 per year for a games console that does just that. no wireless cabability smaller 20gb hdd and no hi def player. You pay more for less! certainly would not be happy if that was car!

well thats how I will be talking my way into buying one :)

When I saw it at the Game-On exhibition the other week playing some driving game didn't think much of it, certainly not worth that price at all.

(Most people seemed to agree, as they were all queuing to have a go on the Wii next to it instead).

Like all hardware, needs some killer app(s).

at 425 quid plus 40 to 50 quid a game its a complete rip off, i think they have priced themselves too far out of the market this time.

Nintendo have had some bad luck with their last console or two, i'll be cheering for them this time round

I can pick up a wii at play for 180, games are 30 each. I can have a wii and eight games for the same price as the bare ps3

I know which one makes more sense to me

also as far as people who have one have said, it's literally silent so it can be used as a entertainment hub in your living room and unlike the 360 you won't be annoyed by the hairdryer like fan they have on that.

Its not so much the fan on the 360 that causes the noise but the actual drive itself. If you download a demo from the arcade and play it, it runs considerably quieter than if you're actually playing a game from a disc. However, I don't argue that it is noisy, but once you're in the thick of it, you don't notice.

I think I will import a 20gb PS3 from Japan. Total cost inc import tax will be £340 and I can always add a larger HDD cheaply at a later date. The lack of wifi adapter is not a problem for me. It also means I can have the console here within 2 weeks :)

The only downside of not having the wireless adaptor is I don't know if you can use remote play with a PSP over the network, even if you have a wireless router.

Whether that's important to you or not is of course for you to decide :)

With the latest PSP firmware you can use it as a remote control for a PS3 :)

Even better, get a game like F1 and turn your PSP into a realtime rear view mirror - linky :D
