Fabia roof bars

Featured Replies

Lo all,

I want to get a set of roof bars for a Fabia estate that has no factory-fitted roof rails.

Anyone got any recommendations on the best type to get?

There are a few on Ebay but I would prefer to get good quality ones as I will be strapping down fairly heavy loads (approx. 70-80 kgs) and also, I would like to remove the bars when they are not been used. I heard they can knock a bit off your mpg.

Would it be worthwhile retrofitting the longitudinal roof rails and then attaching cross bars to them?

Depends how often you are going to have a load on the roof, I guess. The Skoda OEM roof rack is made by Thule, and takes all the standard Thule accessories. It fits well but you have to be careful not to lose the 8 small slot covers that you remove in order to locate the feet.

If you want the Skoda roof rails and cross bars for your estate , these are the part no.s and prices

i have a THULE roof bar set with different connectors, will take a picture of the connectors saturday and post them here, if they fit then you are welcome to purchase them.....

PS, never used them ??

Interested in your Thule roof bars! are they the type that'll plug into existing fabia vrs channels? I'm after some to lug my bike about, what sort of price did you have in mind? I'm only in East Yorks, regularly over West Yorks.Let me know:thumbup:

Thanks for the replies folks.

I reckon it might be best to leave out the OEM roof rails as that involves another purchase in addition to the cross bars and having to remove the roof liner, etc. to fit them.

Separate roof mounted cross bars (not sure if Thule do these though) are probably my best option.

Spevie, thanks for your speedy reply and the snaps. Is this a thule rack? How does it attach to your Fabia? It's hard to tell from the pics, do they fir in the four mounting points on the roof? Thanks Neebsta:thumbup:

Neebsta, never tried to fit them really, they are a THULE for sure, but as you say if they need to fit into the grooves on the roof then maybe a different holder/connectore may be needed, never actually fitted roof bars/rach into the roof grooves before.

If your passing your welcome to check m out ? PM me if you do, no probs

The rack in the picture is a gutter-mount type that won't fit a Fabia. The system that fits the roof mounting points has two metal claws under each foot which expand to grip bars in the roof. Very easy to fit once it is set up properly.

Cheers for your replies, seen the fitting attachment now needed.....Thanks for replies Spevie, probably best off trying to get the right set up first time!

I have retrofitted the OEM longitudinal roof rails on SWMBO's Fabia Estate. In adition to the parts mentioned above you also need the black trims which run the length of the roof as they have the holes and spacers where the mountings for the rails go through and they cost around about £30 each. You don't need to remove the headlining to fit them, but you do need to drop the sides, which included removing the A, B C pillar trims. Not the easiest job, but completed in one afternoon and definitely worthwhile as it finishes off the look of the estate (in my opinion anyway).

Hello folks.

I have the same dilemma that Starman100 had - I need a set of roof bars for a Fabia estate (2003) that doesn't have factory-fitted roof rails.

I couldn't tell for certain from the various replies I've seen on the forum how to go about this, or what to buy.

I don't want to get the OEM front-to-back roof rails if I can help it.

I've prized out the trim in the roof grooves, and all that's in there are two holes a few inches apart at each corner of the car, covered by a bit of tape.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
