We are thinking of buying a Fabia estate. Which one do members recommend? Just to fill in some details: rip-snorting performance is NOT a priority; its usually just the 2 of us aboard with the occasional 4-some and a load in the back; good mpg IS a priority; we drive to Europe quite a lot. Any thoughts? TIA

welcome

Sound to me that the 100bhp deisel engined version would be deal for your needs especially as you drive in Europe it has excellent performance & economy. The 1.2 is fine motor but would stuggle a bit if your estate is loaded and has extra passengers and any hills are involved. The 1.4 16V petrol is also 100bhp and is again excellent for your needs.

Hi Wendham

If you've decided it is to be a fabia estate, I'd go for one with the PD100 engine. It's diesel torque is very good and it won't be a slough. You could go for the SDI diesel, but you may find underpowered especially with a foursome (oooeerr).

I think it has to be a diesel though, with your good mpg requirements. Also, diesel on the continent is cheaper too :D

Have a look around the reviews section - there are some useful bits of info there although I don't know if there are any specific diesel fabia estate reviews...

If ever you did want some rip-snorting performance, you could always have it rechipped. Jabbasport is very popular here on briskoda, and the result will be even more of a kick up the backside with without loosing that all-important mpg.

BTW, do you know if you're after buying new or 2nd hand ?

Welcome again :D

If you can stretch to it, get the 1.9TDi Elegance - you get all the benefits of economy with the diesel engine, and the air conditioning, heated seats, etc. will make long journeys more pleasurable.

tsk tsk tsk Rob :nono:

Trying to lure new members to a tavia when they already specify a fabia :D

As much as I hate to admit it, the tavia is a very nice car (I did have one several years ago) and if you wanted a fabia estate for the boot space, maybe a tavia hatch would be enough ? It should certainly cater for all your beer storage requirements when travelling to the continent :D

I did actually mean the Fabia TDi Elegance Estate! Drove one once as a courtesy car...wasn't bad - for a Fabia... :P

Rob.

Ooops

indeed.
