Replacing the original Stream Radio with new Stream MP3

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Skoda Octavia II (Manufactured in october 2005), It has a 12 Speaker sound system and a stream CD-Player. I want to replace the Stream CD with the new one from model year 2007. And I have a few questions.

1. Is it possible to install it in my car? (the Pinout Diagrams of them differ), saw these diagrams on Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide.

2. Is there any code that I should beaware of when buying it (Stream MP3) on ebay?

3. Do I need to reprogram the CAN-Bus?

4. Any other things that I should think of?

HOpe you can give me som answers.... I need that MP3 function =)

You shouldn't need to recode the CANBus but you may need to code the radio.

As for the wiring the only one you may have to change that I can see would be the CD changer ground.

Hi Stu,

What is involved in coding the radio?

It can be done with VAG-COM or VAS and basically sets the radio options to suit the car. Much like the coding of the MFD2 that you linked to above.

I was hoping not to have to do that..... It is a bit expensive to buy the VAG-COM

Im sure someone on here may be able to help with that..

I may be able to help; I'm ordering a new Octavia with the standard radio/cd (stream mp3?) and will be taking it out to as I'm transferring the Alpine unit I have in my present Fabia.

I will therefore have a standard (?) Stream mp3 available to buy. :D

PS> Does anyone know where I can get a fitting kit to be able to put my DIN size Alpine unit in an Octavia II?

There's absolutely no problem regarging wiring. It's almost plug n play! The almost goes to the need for a 4 digit code you will need to enter the first time you turn the newly installed unit on.

When I changed mine I just gave the car frame number (or however this is called) and the code written on the MP3 unit to the official dealer and they gave back this code.

I suggest though you'd go to a mechanic. If you have the code in hand it takes no more than 10 mins!

Wish this helps
