VRS Vs Ibiza Cupra 1.8t

Featured Replies

what power figures have you lot got from the VRS...

i love the econimy of the VRs my best friend has one but i want something to make me smile...his is standard...do i but a turbo or a Turbo diesel??

Do i need to spend loads to get over 200bhp from the Smog monster?

err... yeah;)

If you want power - go for the 1.8T, so much more tuning potential...

You could go halfway and buy an Ibiza Cupra PD160. That has uprated just about everything over an Ibiza/Fabia PD130. Insurance is the only downside being similar to the petrol model.

Basically the PD 160 will map to around 200bhp, so not far off the 1.8t and will be a beast to drive.

good shout, would probably still return a combined 40-45mpg too... You can tell im a derv fan!

But as said, it would annoy me paying so much extra to insure this car above the PD130

The cupra is 16k!!!!

It costs about

Cupra list price is about 16k but you can pick up used ones from 9k now, which already have FMIC, big brakes, uprated suspension etc etc all fully warranted. Modify a vRS/FR and you are looking at Cupra type insurance figures.

Ibiza Cupra 1.8 turbo. Every time.

Cupra is lighter, more power, faster & more tunable for less

hey guys not been on for a day or two! thanks very much for all the advice just got 12months MOT on mine so think i'm gonna be car shopping this weekend!! Looking at a used CUPRA not a new one..nooo way, i used to be a car saes man now im a plant machinery fitter (not much of a change) didnt like the force selling and hours of the sales lark!!

i'm not too fussed about the MPG as i dont drive it everywhere i use my van all day as im mobile fitter....it will feel amazingly fast after driving my non-turbo kangoo (that i did get caught speeding in today)!!Thanks again guys! il keep ypu updated :-)

Do you star in 'Pimp My Ride' on MTV !! ?

Thought not...... But you write like you do!!

What's a smog monster??

A diesel engine?

Or an excuse to put your Fog lights on??;)

To your original question:

If you want economy and performance ...Buy a Fabia vRS

If youre not bothered by economy...get an Ibiza 1.8T

If you want rapid depreciation ..get an Ibiza

Easy choice to me...But I'm biased :D

the 1.8T engine isn't too bad on a run if you drive 'normally' , in my old 150bhp Slxi 'tavia I got 43mpg on a run , and on the vrs 'tavia I saw 40 mpg once or twice , its quite efficient because of its 5 valve head.

Ha Smog monster (term from work) i'm a plant machinary fitter s there's plenty smog comes from the big diesel engines.

I've got ain ibiza at the moment and i know about the depreciation...i used to be a car sales man!! ahhh!! My friend has a VRS and he's also lost a fortune on his..think i'm gonna go with the 1.8t as i want big power!! my friend is modding his vrs too so we can swap cars if we go for a drive and get bored! best of both worlds!!

The reason economy doesn't bother mee too much is i'd just be using the car for fun not commuting etc...

Your friend shouldnt have lost a fortune. They hold their value very well. In fact...better than a Mini!!

Are you sure about that? For the price of a brand new Mini, in comparisons to two year's down the line. They're doing quite well.... :)

1.8T ibiza, as said more power adn less weight than a fabia vRS and also has its power for more than 12rpm :)

a remapped octavia elegence 1.8T is quicker than a remapped fabia vRS proven so the same engine in a much lighter smaller car should be lots faster.

I used 2 have an octy vrs and loved its total screaming and angry nature but I def dont miss pants poor economy as my mapped fabia vrs doesnt make the same noise but pulls much harder than the octy but admittedly the standard brakes are not good.

anyhow I got 360 miles last week out of a tank and could have got more and there was only short journeys of both mixed and shxt kicking driving but I will consider a limited edition fab in rally blue or maybe wait for new fab vrs with golf tsi job if it appears!! any suggestions??

the fabia does not pull harder than the octavia, it may feel like it but it doesn't. we have them racing on video on an airfield doing at least 3 runs side by side. an AMD one-clicked fabia vRS and a jabba remapped octavia elegance 1.8T and a 4x4 elegance. the 4x4 was well away off the line and about the same performance on the move and over a mile or so the fabia lost about 5 car lengths if i remember correctly.

Not gonna start one of these Fab/Octy threads are we :P

A one-clicked Fabia vs a custom mapped one and even more so, one remapped with hybrid turbo & FMIC, is a different thing :)

(not saying the outcome would or wouldn't have been different, a remapped 1.8T is likely to quite comfortably win if there is no limit on top speed, and from a standing start )

A one-clicked (not custom mapped) sticks out around 160bhp, there is potential for at least another 20 with a custom mapping using std turbo but with FMIC.

this was back last year when me and phil were running the same remap and same car apart from i had turbo back system and fmic but a knackered turbo :)

not what its running now which would be a totally different race again :)

Another thing is that 4x4 would have trounced both in the wet :)

most definitly
