Anyone done a warranty claim on........

Featured Replies

Their keys??????????

I decided to jump in the swimming pool yesterday with my Fabia keys in my shorts pocket :o I know, I know, what a complete tool!

Anyway, I've taken the fob all apart and stuff and inside the key where the battery goes actually looked remarkably dry. I put all the parts on the radiator for a while to dry them out completely before testing this evening.

I pressed unlock and WAHEY - the lights flashed and the vRS unlocked. Excelent I thought - until I pressed again to unlock all doors and........NOTHING:mad:

I've tried swapping the battery with the spare set and still nothing.

so my question is; are the keys covered by warranty? and is it worth a claim? They look 100% fine to my eyes.

What do you all reckon?

Claim on household insurance... you can hardly blame Skoda for your stupidity ;)

Yeah, I know, but i don't. I keep meaning to get it sorted but there you go.

Anyway, back to the topic!!!

I'd blame Skoda to be honest. Just tell them it stopped working and you've no idea why. ;)

Buy some new keys

New blank keys off Ebay - £30 each

Getting them cut - £5

Reprogramming - free with vagcom

Remembering never to go swimming with your keys again - PRICELESS. :P ;)

Hey lets face it they probably know now..lol

Use your other key. And keep the swimming one for emergencies, when you can just unlock the door with it.

Thats alright until they investigate the cause and see water residue inside.

Thats what I would do.

You never know, given some time to dry out the other key maybe fine.

how on earth could you claim on the warranty for your jumping in a pool with your car key in your pocket?

i think i might try and claim on my skoda warranty that ran out nearly 18months ago for a puncture i got recently, you think they will pay out?

Mmmm

Sorry , as the keys are NOT a common problem it WILL be looked in to , Sorry

So the answer will be NO , it cannot be claimed under warranty

Sarah

Em, does that mean that Skoda claim that the keys are waterproof under normal conditions, such as heavy rain?

That is the differnce between splash proof or water proof

Dont think you would submerge them in "Normal" conditions

Sarah

I'm not trolling Sarah, but you don't know just how soaked I've been on a few occasions. It's taken several days (yes really) to dry out the padding in my waterproof jackets.

I think the keys are fine as long as not immersed as my octy I keys got pretty damn wet in a coat once, i was dripping as was the coat.

Personally I suggest, opening the key up, getting a new battery, as that may well be the problem (they don't like being immersed and often have a pressure release valve in them). Spray some switch cleaner or circuit board cleaner over the board then put the new battery in.

Will cost about £5.

Failing that buy a blank, open the old one up and swap the bit the the electric in it or the key section, and then get somebody with VAG COM to reprogram it for a few beers :)

I accidentally dropped my keys into the washing up water. Long story... :P

In the airing cupboard and no problems - works fine...

Sorry, probably the last thing you want to hear but hey...

where you live Joe ? swimming pools round here don't look very tempting at the moment - or does the wearing of shorts ?

my key went through the washing machine and after drying out it worked fine so they can take quite a bit of water.

will it not just require reprogramming or something like that

just stick it in the airing cupboard and use the other key

a mate at work dropped his phone down the bog , phone stopped working , CPW said water damage not warranty , so he claimed off the insurance , got a nice new N73 , in the meantime original phone in the airing cupboard , it now works perfectly , so hes got 2 phones for the cost of his insurance excess , not much

I think you may have give him confidence that maybe his keys may dry out if left in the airing cupboard for a few days:thumbup:

Yeah, perhaps but I'll have to see.

And as I said, it's not the battery because I've checked that.

@ Awesome Sarah - I know the keys are not a common problem and that it will be looked in to, but HOW can you say that the answer will be no just like that?

@ bengie - obviously I wouldn't be claiming on the Skoda warranty for jumping in the pool with my keys. I would be claiming that they just stopped working. Clearly there's no point in telling them I submerged the keys.....

@ mr Gareth Jones - I have the use of a private heated indoor swimming pool and sauna all year round:thumbup: and it wasn't *that* cold that night!!!

and finally @ snoopie - AT LAST - - Someone on my wavelength!!! Thank you!

Just go into your dealer's... You don't ask..... You don't get!
