Power loss on my 110 tdi octy

Featured Replies

HI ALL!

My octy needs some TLC -Here are the faults=

1=turbo dies occasionally when accellorating over 3000 rpm but if I knock off ignition and re-start all is fine untill the next time!!!

2=In the mornings [when car is cold] a miss comes in the engine for a split second normally around 2000 rpm in second gear.

3=I find the power isn't the best as my octy is 110 I find my girlfriends A4 to have more torque even though its a 90 brake!

4=I find the whistle from the turbo a little loud compared to driving other tdi's.

I forgot to mention my car has starship miles[184'000]but I service it every 6k changing all filters and use magnetec oil.I don't think mileage is the issue as they are very common as taxi's in my city with some having covered 500k!!

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm at the stage where I'm afraid to overtake in case turbo fails!!

Thanks in advance

Colin.

Sounds like the VNT mechanism in the turbo may have stuck. Your turbo may be producing too little boost at low rpm (low torque compared to a 90 TDI Audi) and may be overboosting at higher RPM, causing an overboost fault to be logged. When this happens the ecu limits power until the error is cleared by turning off the ignition. Is it the origional turbo after 180 odd thou? If so youve been very lucky to get this far!

There is loads on here regarding problems such as this.

I dont' think the GTD Magnatec meets the requirements of the oil for that engine, although i could be wrong.

It does sound like you will need to have the turbo removed and the VNT mechanism cleaned up or a new turbo, but it might be worth giving it a good boot up the m/way at higher revs first.

You might also have MAF issues from the poor pull of the engine, although again this may be turbo related.

What reg is the car, I'm just wondering if you have an ECU with the BM code as these are alledged to soot up easily over on 'honest johns' website..

Firstly thanks to both of ye for your replies and time.

It was originally on a 51 plate before I had to give pay the Irish government VRT of 3000 euros!!It was first registered in late January 2002.

I'll bet on the VNT too. If you get the fault codes read, you'll probably find an overboost recorded.

Check the vacuum hoses to the turbo and the N75 valve first though.

hi, i have a 110 tdi octy estate with 143k on the clock and i have the same problem and found it to be the maf sensor, i have cleaned it with brake cleaner (bodgit & scarper strikes again!) and had no problems for about 4 weeks its just started doing it again but no where near as often so have ordered a new maf from e-blag for

Think yourself luck, my 51 plate 110TDI's turbo died at 60K (3yrs).:thumbdwn:

Luckily, as I had just bought it, the dealer paid the

Had the same problem with mine (TDi Elegance) when it was only 2 years old.(20 k)Dealers tried lots but eventually changed the Turbo and it did the trick.

Good luck!

Mine has had everything changed and is still unreliable at best :-(

IMHO that engine / turbo combo is really picky that you use the right oil and get teh servicing done on the dot.
