I am looking at an s reg one tomorrow - cheap budget car - anything i should know / look for?

Ragged engine.

Wait till you see the cost of a new timing belt

Service history is important on these - they are generally reliable but the servicing has to be on the button.

I had a Bravo HGT with the same engine, 2.0 20v 5 cylinder, it makes an awesome noise with the addition of a nice filter ;)

Was reliable for me and I owned mine for 2 years.

As above the cambelt is a problem, had mine done at 72k and it cost £600. from a specialist called PowerAlfa/Fiat.

Edit - But don't expect it to be cheap!! Fuel consumption is awful!! Thats the main reason I bought my Octy!

Cambelt has been done phew.

Had an ITR before the Octy - none in my price range tbh or i'd have another.

I want one as a weekend toy but SWMBO wants a kitchen

i changed the engine on one of these once on a turbocharged one that my brother bought off ebay... they are absolutely horrible to work on, took ages!! imagine having to pay a garage to do that!!

Tell her you can't race a kitchen. Lad round here has one and it sounds fantastic. Looks good too, dc5 in white. I kind of want one.

I'd love a DC5 but you can get one like I had for under £6k these days.

Tell her you can't race a kitchen.

she'll say. "yeah but you cant cook in a car!!"

Ugh Fiat Coupes are not good at all. If you are after budget tubbie fun what about an MR2 turbo or a Nissan 200SX??? Both more are a lot reliable than a Fiat Coupe and cheaper to maintain.

I still think the FIAT looks and sounds better though. Proper Coupe with Pininfarina interior and Bangle exterior:thumbup:

I love the 20v turbo and was very impressed when I went out in a friend's. Not quite as quick as the Scooby off the line, but certainly kept going and going into triple figures :D He sold his just before the cambelt service and bought a Scooby turbo to replace it!

Really??? I think it's bogging inside. I remember going to look at one about 5 years ago and thinking what a carp interior. Not a fan of them myself and moneypit is the correct term. Guy on the MR2OC had a friend who bought one, it didn't even last 24hours before costing him a fortune!!! I think I will stick to Jap over Fix It Again Today!!!

I nearly bought one, but FIAT offered such a carp trade in value for my Impreza that I went back to Scooby and got another Prezza. Best move I could have made financially. Well if you can forget the
