Can Anyone do a Guide for changing the Fabia Clutch?

Featured Replies

I know it's pretty advanced but it seems we have some truly gifted mechanics on Briskoda.

Can anyone do a pictoral guide on removing the trans, replacing the clutch, perhaps flywheel and diff?

Clutches burn out fairly often and it'd save a lot of us some

i'm going to do a bit on changing the diff on the five speed box in the near future, but that will be with the gearbox already removed form the car. unfortunately it takes so much longer to do any job if you have to stop every 30 seconds to take a picture

Have you tried the Fabia Haynes Manual? These usually have a guide on how to remove the transmission. I know some complain about the accuracy and generic statements (i.e."carefully remove the transmission", but how???) but I find them OK most of the time.

Haven't got the Fabia one yet (as my VRS is still under warranty) so can't tell you how useful it is in this area, anyone else know?

I used the Polo 6N manual as a guide to changing the clutch on my 96 Polo a few months ago (with a little help from my brother-in-law who is a HGV fitter!)

the fabia haynes manual is appauling, the pictures are grainy and there isn't much detail either

Polo one wasn't great same issues of lacking in detail and generic statements.

I preferred it to approaching the job blind thou and after all it is a workshop manual.

You would think they would do something about the images thou, I'd pay a bit more for a manual with glossy pages and detailed colour photos.

haynes manual is ok but few pics on tranny removal and no details on internals.

I agree with TeflonTom - it is a PITA to have to stop and take photos every 30secs, but the amount of benefit to others (like the guides he has done) is immense.

Too bad another briskodian can't volunteer to take the pics and help out TeflonTom - I would love to see the tranny removal sequence.

Cheers

I was thinking along those lines too - maybe if TT doesn't mind someone taking pics, he could post up when he is going to do the job and ask for a volunteer.

i know a few people on here will be capable of removing the transmission, but to do the job properly you need a wheel free ramp , i don't think there will be a lot of forum members who have access to a ramp , so a guide will be nice but only of any benefit to the lucky members with unrestricted access to a ramp for an unlimited time if there are problems when the transmission has been removed

if a guide is done , there will always be someone who says you didn't do one for a 1.4 16v engine or the 1.9 TDI , so there maybe people unhappy with what is done

You wont get a vRS gearbox out very easily on the floor, its a pain in the **** when your on a ramp to be honest.

cheers TT - be good to see some more guides at the masterclass level like those you've done already!

I feel that this will be a recurring question as time passes due to the large number of torquey remaps.
