Aerodynamics

Does anyone know of a rear wing or other aerodynamic aids available to make the fabia slip through the air a little easier, after that 75-80mph bottleneck ?

that'd do it!

No - the Fabia has the aerodynamics of a breeze block - should have bought an Octy vRS ;)

HTH

:D

Good example !

Yup, seen similar - these guys must be the laughing stock of the town - only they're too busy blasting out inane cr*p + driving on foglamps in daytime to realise it.

Actually seen crudely welded plates on rear of cars - unbelievable, but Oh So Funny.

+ follow someone

You just can

Hello, Babes

No 'Wait for It' tonight ?, Prolific Poster - surely you have the most posts on Briskoda.

Wanna medal or what (-;

SatNav back to normal ?

surelt the door off a chest freezer would be a good alternative for a spoiler??

The Fabia is brickshaped for sure. With regards getting over the 75-80 barrier - it's not that slow there yet? Over 90 it becomes more noticable, over 100 it starts to struggle standard. Remapped it pulls through to 100 pretty quickly, and keeps going.

I don't know if there is much you can do to make it better, spoiler at the back would make it worse for sure.

PS @TeflonTom's suggestion :P Well it would look cool :o;) - but is has to be yellow to match the colour scheme

It might be possible to fit some stuff to the front of the car to make it cut through the air a little better, but you'd need a wind tunnel :D

I think the Fabia is more aerodynamic when travelling backwards, which I must do a lot as the back is always so dirty.

Surely any sort of wing adds drag rather than reduces it?

not to mention the wieght it adds too

i think the extra weight would give you more downforce rather then the shape :P theres that piccy of the czech black fabia with a whale fin, isnt that enough to put you off

There's an Astra 'round the corner from me with a plywood wing. Pure class.

thats's nearly up to the same standard as the cavalier with flames down the side of it in bath that i see almost every time i drive up the A36.... classic

There is nothing you can do to improve fabia air-drag coefficient (aside from getting a different car of course ;)) Perhaps buying some of those M3 natty wingmirrors will help marginally, but a spoiler will only make it worse....

YouTube - 3rd gear pull

this is a link to my youtube video of my car in 3rd gear. It was std then, its now tuned, I will be re-filiming it on wednesday in the same place on the same road. re-mapped custom now, and it really flies. running around 185-190bhp

Having spent 5 years working in a wind-tunnel when I was an apprentice and having the honour  of working with the like of Ross Braun (when he worked for arrows), I know of a few things to make a Furby more aerodynamic.

However, to make it go FASTER, you will have to reduce the frontal area, i.e. the physical size of the front of the car.

So, no door mirrors, skinny tyres, etc

Then you will have to reduce any turbulence;

So, tape up any joints/openings around the front grill, remove windscreen wipers, etc.

This will probably give you about 2mph at top speed.

This is the complete opposite to what everyone does to their furby, i.e. larger tyres, FMIC, etc.

The only way to make your car quicker, make it lighter.

Wings on F1 and WRC cars are there to generate downforce, so that they can corner faster, they also generate drag that slows them down. That's why at slow twisty circuits they will have larger wings on them than at faster more open circuits.

yaktrebor, what do you think removing spare wheel (replacing it with repair kit - like lupo gti has) and removing rear seats / putting rear strut brace on would save in weight ? I weighed steel spare at 18kg

why stop there??? rip out the headlining and sound absorbers plus all the carpets:D

this reminds me of the time my mate at college bolted a massive spoiler on the roof of his micra.

which then bent his roof due to the massive turning force it subjected the poor thing to.:rofl::rofl:

My Flying Brick must be long gone now. Hopefully the owner is on here :D

I remember driving through Hulme in Manchester following an RS Escort MkV, this car was sporting a massive whale tail. The driver stopped at a set of lights and as he did so, a bunch of kids ran out of a side street and managed to rip the spoiler of his car and then they ran off with it!

Manchester eh? You just can't trust the place! ;)

Probably serves him right though, nonetheless! Can imagine he may have been a bit gutted...

Yeah, but it was one of those really nasty and huge spoilers that look more like they have come of the tail of a light aircraft.
