Panel Filters - Do they work?

Featured Replies

You felt a difference? I'm amazed??????

Not so much feel, it does rev very freely and the smoke is less than with an ordinary filter.

On a turbo diesel engine the fuelling relative to airflow into the cylinders is more of a critical issue than with a petrol. Too much fuel without sufficient airflow can produce an over rich fuel air ratio leading to smoke. Diesels chew through a lot more air when relativly compared to a simlar powered petrol.

I have the Pipercross panel which seems to improve throttle response a tad but sounds the same.

That depends on the nit who took the filter out and over oiled it.

The guy who mapped my furby said that tests in Germany (pretty vague I know) showed that with a K&N filter on a VRS, the normal air flow pattern is disturbed and that in turn messed about with the MAF sensor....so actually although the engine gets more air, because the air flow is no longer as good, the effect is negative......

My 2pence....

I'd just stick with a freash oem filter. Really is 5bhp (if that) going to make much of a difference?

One thing to ask yourself when you fit a "performance filter" are you comparing it to the oem one you've just taken out thats done 10K or more miles or to a fresh brand new oem filter?

:iagree:

How much are they for the fabia vrs?

the standard ones are about £5... the 'high performance' ones are about£40

the standard ones are about
if you want a morew aggresive sound drill some holes in the bottom of the air box

That used to be what alot of the saxo vts boys would do.

I feel that the panel filter is worth it for a re-mapped car for sure. To be honest I didn't feel alot of difference on a standard car, apart from on full boost it didn't smoke as much (this was cupra intake + green cotton).

Plus you can re-use them. So after a few 10,000's miles you get your money back on them.......well kinda.

As for on a petrol, I cant see it doing much but it's a better outlaid than an induction kit.

So thats
the standard ones are about

Just got the Panel filter fitted myself, and had a 10 mins drive in it, noise is the same, it's only a lil bit deeper when you rev it... as for performance, It delivers power smoothly especially at high revs, It also revs a bit quicker..

Thanx alot for the help everyone..

Does the same go for a remap then? Save yourself

Sounds waaay to sensible :P

£13:eek:

i bought one about 2 weeks ago and it was about a fiver iirc.... on the other hand the pollen filter is about £13:)

That's interesting as I'm sure MrsF paid 13 quid for one. Will check as I'm going to Forest Gate Skoda on Friday for some minor warranty work.

I can tell you that at 25,000 miles, it made a massive performance (and economy) difference when I fitted a new OEM one and I believe the service interval is 40,000 miles!! Judging by the state of the one I pulled out, I reckon you should change them every 10,000, on a VRS, anyway.

I thought about changing the air filter for an aftermarket performance one, but it sounds as if I am better off just doing the PD160 intake and changing OEM filters regularly.

I do know that changing the air filter will make little difference on most cars, unless the OEM one is causing a serious air-flow restriction.

told ya ;)

yes, i used to change the one on my polo every 10k becuase of how dirty it got

So thats
An aftermarket filter doesn't always kill your maf. ;)

In my experience, an aftermarket filter never kills the MAF :o:D

They've never killed any of my MAF's?

I know but some muppets over oil it.

Very true, but that can't be blamed on the filter surely?

I have had a kn filter in my Vrs pretty much since I got it, last June.

It does make a difference, but its more in the feel of the car than performance. It does make it quicker, but only maybe 3-5%. That said for the cost its very worth while. Plus after 3years servicing costs, with it being servicable, in that way alone it has paid for itself. The main + is the extra crispness and in petrols, sportier induction suck.
