Clutch Life

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I noticed last night, under load, most notable in 4th,5th (& 6th if i'm brave) that between 2k rpm & 2.5k rpm the clutch appears to be slipping.

The engine accelerates to 2.5k rpm then flaps a bit (not a stutter) and then carries on accelerating.

Now, my initial reaction is that the clutch must be on its way out. But the car has only done 30k miles & i don't ride the clutch, nor do i drive in traffic very often.

Does anyone have any advise they can impart my way? :) Should i be talking nicely to me local dealer?

Cheers

Is the car remapped?

Totally bog standard, no mods at all.

It's not the flywheel, there's no juddering, clattering or vibrating.

I phoned my local dealer & they're going to look at it for me :)

30k miles out of a modern clutch is a bit poor as far as i'm concerned...

well my clutch is up to 70k now, and has learners driving it, and still drives like new :) it may be the infamous 'clutch glaze' that people have talked about, where if driven too gently can glaze the friction surfaces and cause slip.... the theory is, a few violent starts will wear this away, and all will be good as new! Don't take my word for it though, I wouldn't want you to make it worse, but there are some members on here (I hope they post) that have tried this, and made their clutch slip go away ....

I have been driving in grandad mode lately i suppose....what would be classed as 'violent start'?

ASR off 1st gear, dump clutch and go-go-go? 2nd gear maybe?

I'd like to think the clutch is better than an Enzo's at violent launches...

Ta,

MPM :)

 Sounds good to me :D :D :D

mine did this abit, so I tried the "Shifty technic" and since then I've had no issues with it.
