Decent EGT gauges

Featured Replies

Looking for recommendations for complete EGT gauges (i.e with fitting kits)

Ideally I would like something which displays EGT and air intake temps, although I'm not too fussed on air intakes as I know those temps are kept controlled by the FMIC. Would prefer LCD display - red on black would be nice.

Having never looked into these gauges before I'm marching in blind and Briskoda is my white stick and labrador.

The only good EGT gauges i know of that you can get in England are SPA mate. I have three of thier due gauages now which are not cheap but the best you can buy. I have spoken to them several times about tech stuff and are always very helpful.

Dual Gauges - Buy dual gauges online

Or can can try here for a cheaper American gauge that is sold local to us but how good the gauge is and what back up you get if something doesn`t work or fit i haven`t got a clue.

Turbobits online shop - digital exhaust gas temperature gauge | digital exhaust gas temperature meter | digital EGT gauge | digital EGT meter

I did look at ebay USA as an EGT gauges are alot cheaper in america and lots of companies sale them but it all comes back to hassle if/when something doesn`t work or do as the ad says

£404!!!! For a friggin guage!!!

If I was going to look at a pure EGR temp setup, I'd try a standard digital thermocouple from either a kiln supplier or a company that builds refractories. They're 12VDC and probably cost less than a supposedly "special one" that is tweaked from an industry standard electronic thermocouple.....

On the other hand - comes as a nice kit (KC 5376) for only Au$70 (28 squid) from jaycar electronics. I've used their kits and they're quality + great fun to build!

Still on the hunt for a decent EGT now. I just splashed out £140 on an electric SPA dual oil and water temp gauge - Looks like a decent unit and to be able to monitor oil and water temps through one gauge sounds ideal to me. :)

Only EGT to tick off now - Have boost and oil pressure sorted now too.

I have an SPA gauge in the Elise for oil pressure and temp, which cost about £160. Really nice piece of kit.

Easy to install? I was quite chuffed to get it for £140. SPA website is having a 10% off for Jan & Feb, and it's a refreshing sight to find a website that quotes P&P + VAT in all their prices. :)

Edit: Just noticed yours is just for oil. I have a racetech pressure gauge for the oil - analogue one. I just wanted to keep my eye on coolant temps as the dash is a notoriously "lazy" gauge.

Mate, an absolute pig, apparently. But, I got Guglielmi Motorsport to install them as they were doing a load of other things at the same time.

:D

Well I have a mate who is mechanically minded. I have to admit it's the oil temps tap which scares me most. Coolant should be easy enough to either use the reservoir bottle or one of the pipes coming off the top. For oil, I'm not sure if you use one of the pipes under the car, or tap a big hole into the sump itself?

Is the sump plug itself a disposable item, or is it just the washer that's disposable? If the plug can be re-used, you could perhaps drill it out and put the oil temp sensor through the plug, rather than putting a hole in the sump.

I'm pretty sure the plug can be re-used. IIRC the plug is on the back of the sump, not the underside, so it should be easy enough to do that. As long as the integrity of the bolt is not comprimised by drilling through the middle of it I guess.

I'm not adverse to drilling a hole in the sump :D it just would need doing when an oil change was being done.

Autometer do some nice gauges, available in 52mm or 67mm complete kits inc probe start from

Good point, wouldnt knowing the temp of the oil at the bottom of the sump be a bit pointless?

I suspect so. Could perhaps tap into one of the oil pipes feeding the turbo. :)

As for EGT - I'm sorted now - Importing one from the States which is going to cost me roughly $160 - So at current exchange rate - spot on - Also getting a yokel over there to help me out with customs avoiding shipping.

No, because that is where the oil is picked up from (starting point) and pushed around the engine.

The above is why him and his brother do a lot of the work on my car! :D Bit of common sense to put Jason right.

yes the oil is at it's hotest point in the sump,.. it has just exited the turbo and the rest of the engine,.. it is then picked up by the oil pump and sent into the oil cooler...

:)

  • 2 weeks later...

spa do a ditial daul gauge, boost and egt's, lights up green:thumbup: or yellow, has a white or black face,... expensive around
