245/45 R17 tyres on a Fabia alloy?

Featured Replies

I imagine they would be a little wide - I'm not after advice from a practical point of view. BUT, in a straight line could I get 245/45 R17 tyres under my arches (bearing in mind I have the ability to raise them up if they stick out a fair bit) These tyres are 8% bigger (which sounds like sod all) than what I currently run now.

Also, what would you recommend the minimum width alloy to use? Would say a 245 tyre be OK sat on an 8.0J wide wheel? Perhaps consider going to 8.5?

8% isnt sod all.

225/45 17 tyres dont fit, so I dont see how on earth 245/45's will.

Wider width and larger profile, I would doubt it.

245/35 appears a better possiblity, but the chances of finding them are practically nil.. I could get Hankooks off mytyres for about £70 each though. I expect Toyos have more grip even with 215 width

Stil think its way to wide. The JBS car had 225's didnt it and it rubbed on the back arches/suspension.

Like I say, this isn't for practical use. I just want the widest I can get on the front only. Call it my extra attempt to get some traction for the 1/4 mile. ;)

The back will be on 14" steels if I can possibly help it....

Why not just get super grippy tyres in a size that fits if it's purely for the 1/4 mile?

Thats what I was going to say, get some Colway inters.

I dont think that there's anyway you can make a 245/45 fit a fabia, i was struggling to fit 225/45 on my fabia, so 245/45 seems to be impossible.. my 225/35's used to rub a bit on full lock, the problem with fitting bigger tires wouldnt be at the front though, its at the back, You have to do some modifications to the body work to make them fit, look at the attachment..

Looks like Colways only go up to 16" for track tyres. :(

May have found another alternative on fleabay :D

Not the Corsa's I seen are they?

Don't think so. Some tyres in the Midlands, which might be suitable if they're cheap enough. Look to be some kind of "racing" size - but told is basically the same as 225/40 R17 - probably the best solution for me as a very marginal increase over 215/40. :) I should be able to get them on (what will be soon) my two spare Evolo alloy wheels (both scratched a fair bit)

When I had just gotten my 16s they came 225/45 tyres....I din't have a problem then. But then again my wheels are 16s.

Kumho do track tyres in sizes above 16"

Why not use a spacer to offset the wider wheels and tyres away from the inner arch, if you are going to use them solely for drag runs?

They'd be no good on the road, or track I'll admit but then there aren't many corners on a drag strip. Just don't brake too hard either and drop the top of the arch on to the tyres though.
