opinions on the lower engine mount (dogbone)

Featured Replies

just thinking about changing the lower engine mount for the uprated version

i'd like your opinions on the subject for example how much more vibration/noise do they produce and whats the benefits of fitting one

just ordered an ecs tuning uprated dog bone complete mount from the us, should be here next week will let you know how i get on, apparently it increases vibrations a little, but you will notice the benefit more so, mines on its way out as its knocking anyway so anything will be an improvement

I have an uprated lower mount - well, modified by a local bloke to be stiffer - he won't explain further!

It did increase vibration slightly but became less harsh after a couple of weeks.

Gear changes immediately felt better - I used to have problems slotting into first sometimes and that was sorted by it.

bought the poly bushes from FORGE,and fitted them myself, doddle of a job,you forget the vibration after a few days, mount seems to bed in. personally speaking:buying the whole kit is a bit of a waste, the ones i have seen from eip etc just seem to use a OEM bracket anyway.

depends if you want to save some dough or just swap them over.

so what are my options exactly

just looked at the forge ones they look the same as the powerflex ones am i right in thinking they just replace the stdard rubber on one end of the mount

forge sell you the bits to fit to your original one to replace the stock rubber.

EIP will sell you the whole unit fully fitted and painted a nice colour.

the price difference is quite alot, something like 18 and 80 quid respectively(approx).

the only"problem" i had was i needed an extra pair of hands to compress the bush enough to get the bolt started on the thread, then it was a doddle.

these are the only 2 i know of,there may be others on the market.

i fitted the powerflex bush kit because my 2.5" downpipe was clouting the steering rack - it completely sorted that problem, Also made the drive takeup much cleaner. Vibration at idle is a little more noticeable but that's inevitable. Once moving you wont notice much difference in vibration at all.

Oh and if you can get the car in the air, the job takes all of 20 minutes

The old bush that came out (85K miles) was like plasticine..

My findings are identical to these with the same bush  . The noise / vibration into the car is actually a plus point for me, it just gives the car a raw edge that never gets intrusive and feels great
