Fabia vRS-should i buy one ?

Featured Replies

Hi there-this is my first post.

Basically i am thinking of trading in my 6 year old puma 1.7 and one of my options is getting a fabia vRS

I would welcome any UNBIASED (lol) advice and opinions :D

Currently Prestige Skoda (Coventry) are offering the fabia vrs at 11499 with 0% interest free - very tempting with approx 3000px)

depends on your resaon for wanting to get one.

Do you need a diesel? Do you do alot of miles? If not then I'd get a petrol hot hatch.

Welcome to Briskoda. I do under 10,000 a year and im currently running a 2004 vRS octavia, lovely car.

Its best to weigh up the pro's and con's for each car, test drive few and weigh way up the pro's and con's again. Thats how i do it.

ive just taken the plunge for the fabia vrs.... i did look at the octavia vrs (200bhp) but it was too similar to drive to the mondeo... (albeit a lot quicker)

fabia vrs i was dead against until i actually drove one... from the moment i did i wanted it

SKY BLUE army actually ;) (or should that be :( )

Yeah fancy the octy vrs petrol too - but is it worth the extra wedge ?

There are alot of fabia owners that do that or less on here.

If you have test driven one and you like it then there isn't much wrong with them.

Depends if you want something to get you from A to B that is abit of fun or something that is lots of fun.

Thumbs up from you then

Have to admit-have read loads of driver reviews on the web-90 % love the fabia vrs.

Is there anything to match it at 11499 ?

Birmingham City mate.

I take it your after a brand new motor ? A nice used late mk1 vRS octy is in your price range.

12k for fabia vrs.... 18k for octavia.... i didnt think it was worth the extra ... but i can see why people might because its not a lot extra

what put me off was the tax band of F and the insurance group (13)... which OK is the same as the mondeo 2.0i... but my objective was to cut costs.

the fabia is a 10x more fun to drive iMO..... particually under 80mph... however, the octavia at higher speeds is obviously quicker...

its personal preference... if you want small and excitement... fabia.... if you want large and quick... octavia ....

Well my puma 1.7 is group 12e (always thought that was way too high), so thats not too bad.

Guess i want something which is as much fun to drive

Recommend a test drive mate then you will know for sure.Had the 2.0 litre petrol ,test drove the vrs and bought it that day...Love it to bits..

The fabia I doubt will be as much fun to drive as the puma, after all the puma was the best coupe in it's class for years, and people say it handles very well. The fabia will probably feel alot heavier and unwill to do what the puma did.

The fabia is very nose heavy, a light petrol car might fit the bill better than a heavy diesel lump. Also it will not drive the same as a petrol which may take some getting used to.

I dont want to put you off but a diesel does what a diesel does well plods along in a relaxing manor.

Another point if you do alot of short journeys the fabia will probably not be that great on fuel as diesels take long to peak. Add that to the extra cost in diesel fuel it might not be as cheap to run as you first thought.

Just my 2p worth.

Yeah I think if you get the vRS, you're going to have to put aside some money to make it handle more like the Puma :D

not too keen on the new fabia shape-looks like a suzuki

presumably thats why skoda are doing such good deals on the current fabia vrs

Cant buy a new one and when they were new they held their price very well. Infact for the first year demo models were selling for the same price as ordering a new model with a nice waiting list.

Not all fords depreciate like a stone, same as not all VW's hold the value really well.

I've been offered

As for the Octivia vRS are you thiking about the mk2 or the mk1? The mk2 is a very nice car and fairly rapid but it is

You considered the sporty Renault Clio? Civic is also worth a look too, if you can get past the space-ship styling :D

Chris

Am looking for a new car or as near to new as possible, so it has to be Mk2

they are two different beast for two different jobs.

18k is alot of difference to 12k, like chris I'd look at maybe a clio or another petrol based hot hatch if I was replacing my puma and I was doing 10k mile or under.

This weeks Auto Express have done a review on 1st yr depreciation, and the little furby vRS comes out at 19% IIRC, the best of the small cars.

Would agree very much with what has been said about annual miles, you have to do 15K+ miles P.A. for at least 2 yrs to see any real price benfit.

Not trying to put you off, but would strongly recommend a test drive as you may be prepared to swallow the cost of not putting the miles on, but keep it for more that 3 years.

Good luck in your search.

BTW - Stay away from the BINI, they appear to have faulty indicators too like the Beeemers, from what I have seen :D

Funny you should say that.

I went to my local renault dealer (suttons-cannon park-coventry) 18 months ago, to enquire about the clio182 cup/trophy (just b4 the new shape).

They didnt have to sell me the car - i wanted it badly (lol)

If they'd 've had one in, i prob would have bought it.

I was kept waiting ages, the salesman showed a distinct lack of interest, then took my details saying he'd get back to me in 7 days time to arrange a test drive.

I am still waiting......

So renault can go scr*w themselves  ;)
