Fabia vRS-should i buy one ?

Featured Replies

Sounds like the trouble I've had with VW in the past. If a dealer isn't bothered then walk away and find another one that will, their loss not yours.

they are two different beast for two different jobs.

18k is alot of difference to 12k, like chris I'd look at maybe a clio or another petrol based hot hatch if I was replacing my puma and I was doing 10k or under.

Budget is not 10k or under

15/16k is fine - just want a good one :D

As Mike says, be put off the dealer, but I'd definitely go and look at the car :D If you want something a little more fun, take a look at Litchfield Imports (Racing Type R). Was

I meant 10k miles or under......edited my post to make sense ;)

Chris why did you have to remind me of litchfields website, some very nice jap spec impreza type-25 looks rather nice lol

Funny you should say that.

I went to my local renault dealer (suttons-cannon park-coventry) 18 months ago, to enquire about the clio182 cup/trophy (just b4 the new shape).

They didnt have to sell me the car - i wanted it badly (lol)

If they'd 've had one in, i prob would have bought it.

I was kept waiting ages, the salesman showed a distinct lack of interest, then took my details saying he'd get back to me in 7 days time to arrange a test drive.

I am still waiting......

So renault can go scr*w themselves  ;)

and theyre french.,.........

to be honest what put me off the renault and the peogeot was the running costs/insurance

Ah yes, if you get one of those, I'm coming to visit you ;)

Chris

if only mate just have to sell the Mrsus first!:rofl:

Looking for a wolf in sheeps clothing - skoda's seem to fit the bill quite well

I'm not sure I'd call a diesel warm hatch a wolf, but if it does what you like, then go for it :D

Chris

Cant buy a new one and when they were new they held their price very well. Infact for the first year demo models were selling for the same price as ordering a new model with a nice waiting list.

Not all fords depreciate like a stone, same as not all VW's hold the value really well.

I've been offered

Unless the low down torque and relaxed nature of straightline performance does it for you, then its not as much fun to drive as a Puma

Any suggestion as to what would be as much fun as a puma ?

test drive, then get a Fabia vRS

Economy - minimum 40 mpg

Exclusivity - and wolf in sheep's clothing

Build quality

Get Silver - looks cleaner for longer

But, but, get a 2nd hand one, low low miles and save yourself a bundle (as with all motors - never buy new, save yourself tons).

Only 2k into Fabia vRS motoring but loving it.

Low mileage :-

"New" Astra could be worth a look too, lots of people seem to rate them...

Rob.

I had the FIesta ST for three months at the beginning of last year. I'm probably biased on this one cos out of the 3 months I owned it it was with the dealer for 2 months. It's fun to drive but the suspension is rock solid and if you hit any bumps it hurts.

Min had a problem with the recirculation system which basically meant it constantly hiccupped and had all the engine warning stuff. Had the new injectors. new cat, new recirculation valves and had to have a new intake manifold as it had melted.

Pretty fun to drive as I said but I'm not keen on the mechanicals or the Ford dealers.

First post (so be gentle!) - so glad someone's talking depreciation here - I'd wanted an Octy VRS for ages as I knew I was going to loose my co. car due to a job change, however was warned against by a car dealer I know who said that give it 3 years and the green taxes will really hurt depreciation-wise. I was gutted but started to think diesel instead.

My advice is do what I did - private purchase Fab VRS (Nov '06)- low miler but was just on it's 3 years warranty (that month) - make sure it's from 1 owner, someone trustworthy with FSH, etc. Mine had one paint problem on the bumber which dealership fixed that week under warranty but apart from that mint with 23k and 3 service stamps from the main dealer - got it for £7300.

I waited ages to find the car - Autotrader uploads their ad's Wednesday evenings (not Thursdays as most people think) - when you find one get there straight away but don't be afraid to kick 'em in the nuts and pretend you're walking away.

good luck.

Lebowski.

Hi. i went from a puma to a vrs.the biggest thing that you will notice is that the handling. Its like driving a bath tub compaired to the puma. Have alook at a Civic type R

I know the O.P. asked for unbiased reports but there does seem to be an awful lot of negatives coming through here !

My experience of driving a VRS (although I don't own one) was t.b.h. pretty good !

It has loads of torque which made me smile big time. :)

Nice lazy driving with instant shove in the back without changing down. :D

Decent fuel consumption, comfortable and although maybe not exactly a true "wolf in sheeps clothing" it's great to see other peoples faces as the engine torque on an in gear "roll on" leaves them behind on the motorway ... surely that's not a Skoda, is it ?

Ok, it's maybe (well definitely) not the best handling car but put it up against a car that handles reasonably well on a mixture of corners and straights if not exactly excelling it does alright !

Remember the Top Gear Mini Cooper v Fabia Vrs video ?

Refresh your memory here: Mini Cooper v Fabia Vrs

Now go and test drive one and make your own mind up !

Yeah, you have to admit that when put up against a N/A car with a smaller engine and less power, it did beat it .... just ;)

Chris

Chris

Yeah, that would be a better handling & lighter N/A car producing circa 115bhp (109bhp/ton) this is only 15bhp less than the Fabia while it also weighs nearly 200 Kg's less than a Fabia Vrs (104bhp/ton), so all in I don't think that's actually as bad a picture as some would have us believe. :D :P

people *always* forget that you should always look at power per tonne :)

What is it you have against the fabia vrs scoobychris?

What is it you have against the fabia vrs scoobychris?

I don't think chris dislikes the VRS.....

I think it's the fabia as a whole:rofl:, and he did own one for a good period of time before he got rid of it.
