Bleedin' televisions

Featured Replies

My portable TV in the bedroom receives a signal via a TV link connector from the downstairs TV so that I can watch and have control of sky.

I watch the sky box through channel 5 on my porty, when I switch the TV on to this channel all is fine for about 30 minutes then the picture goes to snow and I lose all sound too. It stays like this for about an hour then gradually comes back to full strength.

If I use the normal tele remote whilst I've lost channel 5 I can view channels 1-4 perfectly even though they are being watched via this TV link thing because it's rigged up to the external ariel via everything downstairs.

It's been doing this for ages with no improvements or worsening but tonight it's made Mr P very grumpy, so I've got up from my bed to find out if I have to buy a new TV:rolleyes:

:D

Should have gone to specsavers.

Don't you have anything better to do in there? ;)

In my current condition? no :(

Actually I tempted fate by posting this because the darn thing never came back atall last night :thumbdwn:

I'd have thought the best thing would be to try to isolate the problem. If the downstairs TV is OK, can you swap the TV's over (wouldn't see why not aside from inconvenience) and see what happens? Or beg one temporarily from a neighbour to see if it is the TV at fault. Just a thought for starters.

If the portable one is knocking on a bit (given most folks tend to buy a posh new one for the lounge and live with the other one for many years), it might just be wearing out. Alternatively, can you bring it downstairs and feed it from an aerial splitter from the main one in the same room?

TBH I don't know about these things - but someone will :)

*Pricks up ears* Are you looking forward to a happy event, Mrs P?

Unfortunetely not Mo, I've just been confined to bed with a nasty cold virus that gave me a bit of a fever :(

The bedroom tele is a bit old and we do have another knocking about that we will get around to testing when we can. It's a bit on the heavy side for me to lug up the stairs on my own, so will have to wait for Mr P to finish his set of shifts  The current one seems to have gone rapidly downhill since posting this thread

Sorry to hear that. The daft thing (in my way of speaking) is that you, Pixi, look after other folks all the time and thus all of us I'm sure will join in a massive group hug :grouphug: just for you :)

My old telly goes dead intermittently (blank screen). I can bring it back to life by pressing a button on the remote (switch telly back from teletext). The telly tends to do this when it's cold. Sally Ann used to post on here and had good information about atmospheric conditions BTW. I really should chuck my old telly out, but it actually has a better picture quality by far than its replacement, so I'm more worried about RSI (repetitive strain injury) of my button-pressing finger.

I know what you mean about lugging things around. I decided that I was not having any piece of furniture that was not on casters. *Turns furniture upside down and fits casters - Mo in Bob the Builder dungarees again*

Saw this and thought of you ;) You'd only need a shave, false beard and medallion then ...
