Opening a dtp file

Featured Replies

Anyone know what software I can use to open a dtp file??

I've just been sent one by a client who can't send it in any other format:rolleyes: and I haven't got any software to open it...

Hmm, the internet says its a timeworks publisher text document. Try opening it in write or notepad.

Wordpad's usually worth a shot too (if available).

already tried those and unfortunately they don't work:(

I've tried downloading a few trial versions of desktop publishing software but nothing seems to work.

Instead of doing File -> Open with from your file mangler, try running Notepad, and opening it using File -> Open. That sometimes lets you identify what the file was created with.

Cheers, good idea.

Now I've just got to get my hands on a copy of greenstreet publisher 4

Did a Google

DTP extension could belong to several programs (just to make matters worse) :-

File Extension Details for .DTP

If you have an advanced editor e.g. Ultra-Edit, WinHex you could open it and scan through the first thirty lines or so of the ASCII characters shown - this should give you some info on the 'Creator' i.e. the program that created the document.

Could you not just ask the client what software they created the file with?
