octavia 1.8T 4x4 questions

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Im after a new car and the 4x4 kind of appeals to me. Just want to get a few questions answered.

1. Is the engine the same as the vRS? I know its 150 as apposed to 180, but is that because the vRS has a different map? Ive seen some websites that quote remap figures for both engines as the same, so I assume, for example, if 200bhp can be had from a vRS it will also be had from a 150?

2. What colours was the 4x4 avaliable in?

3. As for suspension, will suspension mods for other 1.8T/vRS models fit? such as koni coilovers etc.

4. What other main differences (apart from appearence) are the between the vRS and the 4x4?

Thats it for now though I may have more questions later on! Thanks

1) Engines are basically the same and will remap to the same.

2) Dunno.

3) No, the rear setup is different, you need a 4x4 specific kit.

4) 4x4 has 4wd, sunroof, armrest, headlight washers, ESP as standard above the vRS. vRS looks better and has sportier suspension setup. The 4x4 has independent rear suspension the vRS has a fixed beam at the rear.

2. What colours was the 4x4 avaliable in?

White.

Ceyenne Red metallic (russet orange/brown/red)

Pale metalic green

Dark Metalic green

Pale gold metalic

Black

Silver

There may be others but these are the colours I have seen.

Most points covered, the only other one I would add is that 4x4 hatches are rare but IMO better but I would say that as thats what I bought. Most were sold as Estates & the hatch was dropped from the UK range as they didnt sell that well.

Incredibly modable car & will take to being driven hard without breaking

White.

In addition, Blue Navy Mettalic Pearl-effect. Like mine (it's a hatchbag).

1) Same engine, same capabilities, different settings in ECU. The torque curve is not the same, if I'm not wrong: 4x4 has nearly same torque 1750-4600 rot/min.

4) "4x4 has 4wd, sunroof, armrest, headlight washers, ESP as standard above the vRS. vRS looks better and has sportier suspension setup. The 4x4 has independent rear suspension the vRS has a fixed beam at the rear." > this is applicable in UK, not elsewhere in Europe. Each country has a different "degree" of Elegance, so to speak.

Isn't the turbo a different one on 4x4 (smaller?)

No. Its a K03s on all 1.8 facelift (2001+) Octavia MK1's

The smaller K03 is fitted so the earlier non drive-by-wire Octavias and almost all Golf 1.8's (including the GTi, but excluding the Anniversary Edition, I think.)

No it's on all Golf's after around 2001 too with engine code AUM or AUQ. Only 1.8T that used the small K03 after this date that I know of is the Ibiza Mk3 which used the K03 on all 1.8T's even the Cupra R.

Cheers for the answers guys. Can I also got an opinion on wether to go for the vRS or the 4x4...either way id be tuning so im thinking that having 4x4 makes more sense? and cheaper place to start with cheaper insurance.

Whats your opinions?

There is no simple answer on which one will be cheaper to insure, but my signature should give away which one I bought and have been happy with for the last three years or so :)

AFAIK, the 4x4s were available in any Octavia colour, unlike the vRS which was limited to just four.

I find insurance very reasonable on the 4x4, I pay £600 a year for my highly modded 400+bhp 4x4 estate.

In effect the best way to describe the 4X4 is:

Octavia 4x4 Elegance its basically a Elegance Specced car in the UK plus 4x4 & ESP. It was available in all standard Octavia Colours.

The 4x4 also comes with a few more :) :) :)

This is exactly how it was sold in Central and East Europe the Elegance model. Everything else was optional, so extra money.

Put simply - I dont think you'd find a more tuneable, reliable, affordable and capable car than the 4x4 1.8T for under 16k! I looked at a Mazda 6 MPS (2.3T & 4wd) and just couldn't argue the case in its favour when my octy has run so faultlessly. Ok, the mazda may offer 25bhp more but thats over 10k part exing mine!

Evo's and Scooby's bring with them big costs in terms of servicing too.

The four wheel drive puts it in a different class in terms of putting the power down and I prefer the sleeper looks too - it doesnt draw attention if you dont want it too. :)

FocusZtec, I couldn't agree with you more ! :thumbup::cool:

Me as well, Ive had the Subaru experience  . The Octy 4x4 when tweaked is a fantastic car & a joy to live with.

Even as a stock car it represents fantastic value for money

I agree with the above too and would really struggle to find a something else I'd be happy with as a replacement.

EddyH, I'm thinking of same thing.

What do you think about Scout as a replacement? Does it worth?

Way off the mark as far as I'm concerned, the 4x4 1.8T was a real performance bargain for those willing to mod.
