10,000 as mines on fixed :)

Mine started telling me it wanted a service yesterday - 1000 miles time, now down to 800 miles, which will be about 18.5k.

Can anyone tell me if it goes down as you do the mileage, or if it fluctuates like the 'miles left to fill up' does?

Also, once it reaches Zero, and the light comes on, how urgent is the service? Should I book it in now for a weeks time, or wait until it comes on, then drive it for a week or so until the appointment?

I dont think it fluctuates, it just counts down.

I would call your dealer as mine was very strict abou bringing it in close to the indicated amount and you could find you can only get a service appointment with 2 weeks notice anyway.

Thanks , I'll give them a bell this afternoon.

My car ran out of oil at about 3,500 miles.

As I could not find the correct "long life" oil had no choice but to put the standard oil in.

2 days later the car requested a service.

The oil was changed.

I am now on about 11,000 miles since the oil change in March and have just had to put a litre on oil in

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a quick update - its gone in today at about 18.5-19k (I can't remember exactly).

The display was telling me 200 miles on wednesday, I've done 300 since then, and it still said 100 to go this morning on the way in. Or 450 days. Hmmm...

Managed 57mpg on the way, but only 33mpg in the hired Focus on the way back :-(

Just checked my maxi-dot and its displaying 700 miles (can't remember the days)

wondering why it has not displayed this automatically as I could quite easily do the 700 miles in the time it takes to get a slot in the dealer?

Mine has done a countdown from 1000 miles whenever it's needed a service. It displays for about 10 seconds on startup

My new vRS TDi is on long life servicing and has done 34k. Can I change it to fixed servicing ? What are peoples views on the merits /pitfalls of the variable servicing?

34k?

Has it had a service yet?

erm, yes it has had one at around the 20k mark I think. I guess the variable servicing is better for motorway mileage users but I do more town use than anything.

18.5k - looking similar for the 2nd service.

What tyres did you get that mileage out of Dr Zoidberg? The Dunlop SP01s on ours didn't last very well.
