Arrghh...dealer left on suspension packing !!

Featured Replies

So RS going well since end Jan...only done 500km. Thought I had no issues at all, even the clicking noise from the aircon is so weak as not to be a problem for me. But this morning after pulling into work I noticed a 6inch rubber brick on one of my tires. If came off the suspension. And checking underneath the passenger side I could see there was another one. Turning the wheel on full lock must have caused the first one to come off. Checked the drivers side, 2 still in place. Went out to dealer who was confused and he did remember me asking him to remove the suspension packing. I recounted the story about the same issue on golf gti's. Mechanic came out and said they removed it as always. Then wtf is this I ask ? And why isn't there 4 of these rubber yokes on the suspension on the 06 vRS parked outside. They removed them finally. Not even an apology. The mechanic told me no damage is done and it is possibly better for the car as no shock wear. Opinions please ? Am I ok. Car feels fine to drive. A bit softer :)

Oh. they reset the service internal to fixed (I had to explain what it is), and confirmed that I need to use 05w30 oil for topping up, but off they went and topped it up with semi-synth 10w40 stuff without my consent. Ack. Luckily the manual says it's ok to mix the two when topping up (Just once). Will use the Castrol Edge 5w30 stuff I bought from now on. By the way - will a main dealer use this oil in the service if I ask them ?

One other thing - after much looking (half an hour) they dug up the service bulletin about the clicking climatronic. Mine has very very minor clicking, that you would not even notice and the creaking noise from the vents when you put your aircon on auto only lasts 1-2 seconds tops if the weather is cold. They were not able to check what revision of the software I had, and could only reprogam it with the latest settings, but reckoned it would involve taking off part of the dash to get at the ecu !! No thanks.

So far I am a bit unimpressed. Waited 4 weeks for a race blue touchup stick too and was told by parts that the colour they got is not exact but good enough. Shove it.

By the way, has anyone noticed how easy it is to do 210km+ without even trying.

these are the suspension stops they put on the car to stop it moving about too much when on the transporter, leaving them on will give a harder ride and some say better handling lol, but they will prob fall off after a while like you experience, no damage would occur as they said above, they should have been removed on PDI, so i would be worried if they hadnt done something as simple as this then what else might they have missed :thumbdwn:

Are we not being naive in thinking that a lot of dealers only degrease the car as a PDI?

I know that some do the full PDI, but in my experience, few garages do more than cosmetic inspections.

The software version is displayed on VAS 5051/5052 Diagnostics/Guided Functions.

They need to perform an 'EEPROM Adjustment'

Which dealership?

Mike

130 mph within the first 310 miles? You may not need to worry about long-life oil!

The manual says not to go full throttle or not to use any gear beyond 2/3 of it's capacity. I have done neither.

Also - I am tending to agree with the people that say going hell for leather beds the car in better and helps oil consumption, as I drove around like a ponce for the last 500km and my oil was down at least half a litre !! Oh...I only do about 100km a week at the moment...so waiting to get to the 1500km mark to enjoy this car is not my intention :) Will be getting is serviced once a year too, which is about 14-15k km for me.

Thanks for the info on the software stu

I don't want to get into a great debate about this as ultimately everyone will drive their car as they see fit. The 'but' is that you say that you haven't driven your car beyond 2/3 of it's capacity in any gear. Sorry to point it out but taking a nominal top speed of 150 mph two thirds of that is 100 mph or 162 kph not 130 mph or 210 kph.

I don't believe in kid gloves but hell for leather isn't right either, I've said it before it is about 'car sympathy' or probably more correctly 'car empathy'.

My VRS 170 is 4 weeks old now and since new I've noticed the front ride height is higher than the rear ride height - 100mm between tyre and wheel arch on the front and just 60mm between tyre and wheel arch at the rear.

Could it be that the rubber suspension stops have been left in? Or has the factory fitted some 4x4 springs or something??

Yep - same thing happened to mine - Dealer missed removing the front ones on the PDI - the excuse "normally they're painted yellow or orange" (really??!!)

Any ideas if this could cause long term issues?
