Damn, sorry sight dude :(

First dips on your grill ;)

So what happened then?

Jesus, all that from a low front end clipping the cattle grid ?

Blimey - how did you manage that?!!

A sorry sight though, nonetheless....

Steve

That is sickening.

The cattlegrid doen't look all that bad, but Jeez did it make it's presence felt.

Bad luck mate.

How did this happen?

Gutted for you though... :(

Gutted for you - Hope you get it sorted soon!

I think the front bumper/splitter hit the cattle grid ;)

You can clearly see the grid dips in the middle - I know that it doesnt take much of a dip for the lower edge of my bumper to hit tarmac after a gulley in a carpark etc.

I imagine the cattle grid snagged it and did the damage.

Did it take out anything else? I see fluid under the car.

Thanks for your comments, guys.

Yeh, Goochie, that's basically what happened. Was only going around 5mph too!

Basically, the bumper is totalled, all the undertrays are shattered, the slam panel is bent in a couple of places, the nearside wing is pulled out and the nearside arch liner was ripped out. The rad is damaged somewhere too, hence all the coolant being dumped on the road. All in all, a complete mess!

I'm making a claim from the local council. Everyone I've spoken too knows this cattle grid as being bad.

To top things off, the AA took 2 1/2 hours to get to us. We were given top priority as we had our 6 month son with us. We initially just popped out for an hour to go for a walk. It happened at 4.30pm and they didn't get to us until 7pm. So we were stuck in the middle of nowhere, off the main road. It got dark and very cold quickly. Our boy was well past his teatime and bedtime, and had soaked through his nappy- he was absolutely frantic :( Not impressed!

However, before I had a chance to complain, they phoned this morning and apologised profusely, without any excuses. They are sending a gift for Dan, and £25. I'm happy with that.

wouldn't mind that black grill surround if its for sale! :P

Who is the 2 headed freak taking the photo's?

Ha ha! That would be me!

Grille is totally intact, so prob won't be up for sale ;)

I've just clicked onto this thread.

I'm sorry for you mate. Even my missus said "Ooh, that looks bad".

I feel for you with regards to the baby situation. A missed teatime, bath time and supper would mean absolute hell for us (we have a 5 month old daughter), our thoughts are with you.:(

Hope the council sorts things out as the grid really does dip in the middle, so surely you have some sort of claim. I was impressed by the AA attempting to compensate you for letting you down though, not often big companies do anything to say sorry.

Let us know how you get on with the repairs etc.

ouch........ in the past ive lost about 3 sets of wheel trims off my cars in the past (2 different cars)

Make sure you get some more pics quick (if possible with a ruler / straight piece of wood and ruler to show the magnitude of the dip).

Years ago I dropped a tyre into a pothole at midnight. Bang, tyre and rim gone.

Tried to claim from council only to find they'd filled the hole in the very next day and wanted witnesses and pictures (at midnight !).

Erm - isn't it normal practice to slow down for cattle grids?

Sal

From 5mph?

Skinnyman- cheers mate- wasn't nice, but he's fine now :)

Thanks for your comments, guys

Thanks, Sallyann- very helpful and sensitive  Take a look at the pics- I stopped the car within a few yards of the grid. I didn't even brake hard- just gently slowed to a stop. If I'd been going fast I certainly wouldn't have been able to do this. I also wouldn't go fast over a cattle grid. Period. Especially with my wife and baby in the car!!!

Marky, exactly mate!
