Sidelight fitting myths

Featured Replies

Just changed my indicators and sidelights on my xenon vrs.

Was a bit worried before hand because of reading everything about it on here.

It ended up taking me about 15 mins max including swapping cars about to get in the garage.

There not much space, its a bit fiddly, my hands are a bit scraped.

An hour job for the dealer though, come on.

I didn't change the main beam but that would have been just as easy as the sidelights.

So for anybody doing a search in the future, if you have any sort of basic skills with your hands you'll be able to do this easily.

I wrote this a while ago:

A Rough Guide 'How to'

Near Side (Driver's)

If you look at the back of the headlights there is a clear plastic cover. Remove the two self tapping screws and the cover can then be unclipped and pushed forward (It wont come off) Then using a long flat bladed screwdiver, carefully prise the bulb holder from the headlight . You can just get your hand in to pull it off once its loose. Lift it out, pull out the bulb and replace with the new one. Simply push the holder back in the hole

The other side (Off side)

This is more difficult: On top of the ballast box is the power supply plug. Unplug this. Then undo the two self tappers and the ballast box can now be lifted out to one side With its cage. The battery box cover and front are now unclipped and the back of the headlight cover unclipped and pushed forward. Same procedure as for the drivers side and youre done. Put it all back together and there you go

The 2006 on models require more effort due to a redesigned battery box

Mine is an 05, if the 2006 models are more difficult my above post only applies to <06 then.

Your guide was actually the one I followed, there are a few posts saying they had to take it to the dealer etc though.

Not everyone is as technically brilliant as you though ;)

Dont forget Jason did his bulbs on his Fabia only to have the AA out a day later because he couldnt change gear. The cap had fallen off the back of the headlamp and jammed under the gear linkage,

Not everyone should play with cars. :P

Glad you could make use of it.

You mention the main H7 bulbs being easy. Are you sure?

I couldnt figure out how to get them out at all!!

I recently swapped my LED sidelights for some flat headed LED bulbs... they seem to be much brighter than the normal domed type LED bulbs.

First time I changed the sidelights I found it abit tricky but second time round was dead easy :D

Had to stick with 4 LED bulbs though as the 6 LED ones wouldn't fit through the hole in the headlight :thumbdwn:, so I've put the 6 LED bulbs in the map reading light sockets... the inside of the car it much brighter now :)

Now I just need to see about getting at the fog lamps so I can replace them with some xenon look bulbs
