Windscreen delamination

Featured Replies

I've read in the past about a milky band at the bottom of the windscreen being delamination. I have this on my car and I've noticed that the seal in the bottom right hand corner appears to be mouldy or rotten.

In this case, can the windscreen be replaced under warranty or do I have to go through my insurance company?

If there is no surface damage, ie deep stone chip or crack, in that area which would allow moisture to penetrate, I would ask the dealer to replace the windscreen under warranty and sort out the seal.

Thanks. I'll mention it to them when the car goes in next week.

Mine had the milky band at the bottom of the screen and the dealer replaced the screen under warranty. The milky band is delamination as I had it checked out by a windscreen speacialist first. The dealers told me that this problem applied to VW Golfs also.

Does that milky band go away when you turn the demisters on?

No it's in the black bit at the bottom of the screen and in the middle.

It is where the plastic reacts with water etc.

Never paid much attention to it before but mine also has it. Would you really want the windscreen replaced ? Or would it open a whole new can of worms if not done right? Any ideas of how bad the whiteness will get ?

It will eventually spread right the way through the whole glass.

Note that eventually might be longer than the life of the car, it all depends on the rate of ingress, however it will effect the thing enough that i would want it changed.

I was told that it could effect the strength / crash protection of the car as the windscreen is part of the strength. Skoda changed mine without hesitation after inspection. Mine had spread the length of the bottom part of the screen.
