I`m not a happy Bunny

Featured Replies

Long story short, a old woman cut me up on a dual c`way doing about 50. To avoid hitting her, i had no choice but to mount the curb/verge. Anyway, this is the damage -

Ow.

I'd have hit her.

I wouldn't have hit either her or the kerb.

Anticipation ie all other road users are out to kill you so give them plenty of room.

HTH

Hope she's paying.......................did you get the reg etc,

Is your wheel alright, has it damaged the tracking of the car ?

like i said, long story short, if there was anything else i could have done, i would have done it. Plus she didnt stop, but i got the reg :)

Tracking is out, and got a vibration at about 50 - 60 mph, not to bad tho but still needs checking

Anyway, does this seem like a fair price?

Can't you just reseat the old bumper and put a new arch liner on it?

I think you could get second hand parts reasonably cheap from most breakers yards.

The front bumper doesn't look damaged or is there major paint damage underneath?

Do get your tracking done, and John appears to be selling something :P

That's bad luck! :( Is the bumper that seriously damaged? I would try replacing the wheel arch liner first and see if the side of the bumper can be moved back into alignment. Or is there more major damage behind it affecting its alignment?

Don't know about the price but if you are going through your insurance give them the reg, all the details. times/locations etc they may be able to sort it for you. Why should you suffer/ possibly loose your no claims

Im by far no expert on bodywork ect, but they guy at the garage said that there is a "bar" fixing the bumper in place and its damaged.

Hmm Take it to a decent independent bodywork shop not associated with a garage.

I would bet you could get that bar off a breakers and have it changed over. Ditto goes for any other parts. Should be able to get it down to about £250 all in and so not have to go through the insurance.

£600 is a lot to pay IMHO.

EDIT does he mean the crash bar or some mounting clips?

Either way on a 51 plate I wouldn't be paying £600

mounting clips.

Its going to a local garage in the morning (Well it is now!)

Ask them to price up using second hard parts where possible if it will reduce the price.

Sometimes it will cost more to prep the surface to respray it, other times it will increase it.

Have you had a look at the breakers yards to see if they have an arch liner and VRS bumper in red (It is a VRS isn't it).

If you are handy with a spanner you could probably do a lot of the work yourself and save a load of cash if you can get it in red.

Gutted! Is the central grille damaged or just come out? I hope the vibration is not being caused by a bent alloy :(

The price doesn't sound too bad to me - I know Slacks make a good job of bodywork as I have seen a few examples. If you sourced/fitted the bits yourself and just had the bumper painted professionally I doubt you would save enough to make all the messing about worth while.

She probably drove off because she was completely unaware of what she had done; elderly drivers are seriously dangerous IMO!

Hope it all gets sorted ASAP.

Nah. The anticipation is so that you can judge it properly. Just a gentle nudge can send such a driver spinning out of control with minimal damage to one's own vehicle.

Bugger, that sucks.

Unfortunately I can see a real problem claiming against her insurers. If she didn't hit you, there's no physical evidence of the effect her driving had on you and it essentially boils down to her word against yours, unless you can get hold of any CCTV footage from the Highways Agency (unlikely).

I hope that you are going to your nearest police station and reporting this as a "FAIL TO STOP" & "FAIL TO REPORT" & "FAIL TO SWAP DEYAITS".

"Owing to the presence of a motorvehile on a road a road traffic collision has occured". i.e. the meere fact that she was present and she was the cause of the RTC is enough!

Any witnesses in your car? Where did it happern? If it was on the A19 then there's plenty of camera's for the police to check.

If it were me.... cough... cough.... i mean my friend ;o) he'd be doing her for the above offences plus driving without due care!

Private message me if you want advice and i'll help if you want!

I hope that you are going to your nearest police station

Chance of it being open would be a fine thing!
