Peugeot 406?

Featured Replies

Any good? I'm looking at maybe a 110HDi model. I know I said never a French car, but these seem reasonably well built, or am I being misled?

Its a late one so has satnav etc in and the trim is 'Rapier'.

I looked at a 110HDi Rapier as well . . . very comfortable and handled well too. I have heard though that if you intend to do any work on it (mechanics wise) it's like it was put together by monkeys, things are in silly places, hard to get to and illogical. That said, I believe they're relatively sound. :)

French Diesels are the only french clutter i'd own

Mate has a 90bhp 406 on a Y plate, and he sticks 3000+ a month on it, it does 950 miles to £70

£2k gets you a sub 100k one with aircon etc from an auction.

reliable, cheap to run

not a bad buy at all!

Nothing to do with pugs now, Mondeo's. Is the Saloon a decent buy? Ghia X Saloon for £5500 has come up....

Should make a good buy, Ghia X is top of the range. you should get a good car for 5.5K but its cheap for a reason. Due to the huge number of fleet cars deprication can be quiet high.

Ghia X comes with all the toys and is an excellent 2nd hand buy imho ;) If you can get an '03 onwards you'll get a facelift model with even more toys, but I've been more than happy with my '02 :D

My boss has a 406 HDi. The only significant issue he's had with it is the gear linkage breaking.

The 406 is mechanically sound, and while a couple of the trim items are slightly fragile, it's a pretty good car if you get a good example.

Seen plenty of the estates running around as taxis

I had a 406 for 270k only ever had to replace the radiator, and the heater fan. just about as comfy as a car can be with a superb ride.

Mondeo is a good option too, I'm well happy with mine.

Just been to see a Mondeo. 02 plate, dark red, Ghia X, 97k on the clock, 2.0 petrol, no service history, couple of stratches, looks like boot has had a dog in, but generally not too bad. I took my old Fabia in (that belongs to me, again) for part ex.

They were willing to do a straight swap  I didn't turn it down, more said I'd think on it and call back Monday. Was I mad and should I have taken it?

Is your furby a VRS or a deisel?

If so there is a good chance it will be worth significantly more than the Mondeo.

PD100 in a lovely shade of beige. Its 51 plate with lowish spec of front ew, em, rcl, a/c, cruise (from Stu  ), parking sensors. 57k on the clock (just before cambelt ;) )

Mondeo is probably worth slightly more, I would put my Fabia in the private sale area of about
