Got a lift in a roomster this morning.....

Featured Replies

...whilst my Furby vRS is in having its leaking rear doors sorted. I made sure the people at the dealer knew the exact symptoms of the leaking door problem (FR Pulleyn in York) to make sure they didn't do anything silly and replace the rubber or anything.

Anyone have any experience with them on this front?

To be honest I found the Roomster to be a bit naff. The rear seat layout doesn't look finished somehow....they clearly look like you can remove them and you can see under the luggage cover above the middle seat. Also, you have to completely remove the seats to turn it into a van....they don't fold down. Where do you put them if you don't have a roomy garage?

The engine was the wierdest bit. It was a diesel (felt quite gutsy) but sounded horrible at idle, akin to an old Transit van or Iveco Daily....lumpy and really clattery. The interior was also a bit 'odd'. The front side windows have like a black plastic film on the bottom corners near the B pillar which gets in the way a little when looking out and looks cheap and nasty, the A pillars cause a huge blind spot and as for the C pillar....well....it's the size of Asia. It makes it feel quite dark inside which is why they probably fitted it with a white dashboard. Ugh.

The chap driving said that they'd had some interest in them until people saw the interiors which apparently put them off. The top spec one comes with white seats which you cannot change for different ones and so as soon as people realise that they walk away. This is the chap from the dealer talking by the way.....

Seems perhaps they have not learnt from the seats in the Fabia vRS or the white carpets and seat inserts on the Octavia vRS?? :thumbdwn:

Otherwise the ride was good, if a little roly poly. The cup holders are a nice touch, as is the double level glovebox, if a little fiddly to open.

All in all it felt claustrophobic to be in due to the big pillars and the masked side windows.

Combine that with the fact they're fitting them with old Transit engines and it made me feel I would not want one.

Having said that...the only reason I own a Skoda is because of the vRS which I can't wait to get back....a little more waterproof. ;)

Hardly conclusive is it though? I am shure that it would feel better to drive one

than to put your feelings down as a passenger.

I must say that they do look a bit odd though. Would prefer the vRS!

I think those comments probably sum up the impression I had looking round one. Still yet to see one of these on the road though!!!

Ah, someone else has noticed they hardly seem to be flying out of the showrooms. Skoda's figures for 2006 show 250,000 Octavias, 225,000 Fabia's, 20,000 Superbs and er, 14,000 Roomsters (although they've not been in production a full year its still a bit low innit). I think they buggered about with the concept car's looks too much when they 'productionized' it personally.
